How do I use the other sections of "Article Layout for the front page" letters B, C, and D?  I can only use two areas, example:  Layout B, I can only use the top (featured) area, and the center-left area, how do I use the center-right area?

Or another example, letter D, I can use the featured-article area and the lower-left area, but not the upper-right and lower-right area.

Thank you very much!!

You have to play around with the settings in Admin/TinyPortal

You have the "settings" part for the over all features, and then "panels" for the fine tuning of what to show where.

Yep, already tried that, every link/setting page on the admin panel for TP.
From Layouts B to D, I can only touch the "areas" on the left side (including the Red Area or Featured Area).

So if I use Layout B, the featured or Red Area occupies the whole "content area".
But below that, according to Layout B, the content area is divided into two sub-areas, which is left and right.

I clicked and tested every possible setting but I can only use the "left content area" of Layout B, C, or even D.

What I meant by "content area" is where the content is shown.  Since on TP's terminologies, Blocks are separate from the main content area, the center block is separate from the content area (which really confused me coming from Nuke and Xaraya).

I attached a screenshot to easily explain/show what I'm asking about.

So, as I was explaining or asking.  I can't use the article_area on the right side starting from Article Layout B to D.

I already have different forums with topics set for the 1)  Settings -> Front Page -> Show forum-posts on front page from. Result: doesn't affect or solve my question;
2)  Settings -> Panels.  Result: doesn't affect or solve my question since it refers to Panels not Articles;
3)  Settings -> Block Manager -> Edit Blocks.  Result: nothing; I tried putting non-empty blocks on the Left Side Block, Right side block, Center block, and Front page block; apparently, the "block" term is the same as the "panel" term (side note: why is TP using two terms for the same function?)
4)  Settings -> Block Manager -> Menu Manager.  Result: nothing either, tried various settings especially the "Position" setting but nothing changes (what exactly is the "Position" setting???)

Also checked Article Manager, but no setting is available.

Anyway know how to use the right-side "areas" of the "Article Layout" B, C, and D??

Thanks in advance.

I see it can be confusing..but the terms aren't mixed: "panels" or sometimes "bars" (the old term really) are the big containers for smaller pieces, the "blocks".

These panels are named after placement(left/right/center), rather rigid at that. Then there is the separate content area in the middle, the spot where articles etc. is shown. It has layout A,B,C,and D for how lay out several articles and/or forum posts and works only on the frontpage/article categories.

So you can't have blocks in those layouts really..but you got an extra "panel" called frontblocks which will show blocks IN the content area, just like an article(actually you can also choose to show it either above or below normal content). But they still don't follow the layout A,B...etc

In TP 1.0 this is changed to where all panels can use a grid for how to place blocks, but for that you need to wait until 1.0 is ready.

Ahh I see.

And for the article layout, the right side areas are not being used right now but will be available with 1.0, I got it right?  And the ones that will use the right areas is the frontblock panel?

My understanding at first when looking at it is that, the right areas of the article layouts B, C, D, can be used by the articles or forum posts.

Hmm... is there any way to, use those areas, say hack a few files or hard-coded, as a temporary solution?

Now that I understand which is which and how things work with TP, I can only imagine how powerful TP is, compared to similar forum plugins, great work.  I didn't make the wrong choice. ^^

Thanks again.

You got it almost right lol :) The right side of the layout is indeed used..but only if you have enough items to fill it up. So for C and D you need at least 4-5 articles/forum-posts to see it in action.

Also, for the first left/top item in all layouts,  setting an article as "featured" will fill up the spot with that article regardless.

Ah I see, ic..  was thinking I can explicitly put content on the right-side area of the layouts  ^^.. well hope one day its possible.

Thanks again.. :D  Kudos!!

THis was useful, as I was struggling with the same problem.

So how was the front page of this (TinyPortal.net) site created? I would like to create a similar layout for my front page.
