I am trying to install TinyPortal 0.9.8 with SMF 1.1.2
This is a new install starting with an empty database.  I got SMF installed without problem. After downloading and trying to install the TinyPortal package I got a fatal error message about some file in the /packages/temp directory.  I looked for this directory and it did not exist, so I created it with write privileges.  When I ran the install script again it looked like everything was OK, because I got a status screen that displayed some information about the TinyPortal tables in the database and at the end of the information, it had the lineââ,¬Â¦

ââ,¬Å"Please restart your forum to see the changes.ââ,¬Â

After restarting the forum, there are no changes. It looks like nothing happened. I canââ,¬â,,¢t find any evidence that TinyPortal was installed.  :(

What now?

Have you installed any themes other than the default? If so, you need to be sure to have the default theme selected when you install TP. In order to see TP in other themes, you'll need to get themes that have been converted.

You seem to have file permission errors.

Stay with the package manager and install TP trough it, but before you do it this time you have to make some changes.
Open up your FTP and go to your forum folder (where you have SMF  installed) and look for the folder called packages.
Change the permissions to that folder 755 or 777 depending on the host settings for the server your on.
Then you open the packages folder and create a new folder, name it temp and set the permission to 755 or 777 and now try and install TP again through the package manager and see if you get it to show up.

Thank you JPDeni;
No, I havenââ,¬â,,¢t installed any new themes or changed from the default.

It does SEEM to be a permission problem.  I know that in my original post I glossed over some of the steps that I took. I started out using the package manager to install TP, after uploading it, I click on the install link and it prompted me to enter my FTP information.  After entering the info, I got a screen of information that listed a number of tests that it preformed and their status. At this point, everything was good all tests were successful. Next, I clicked on the install button and this is when I got the fatal error message.

At this point I did what you suggest. I manually changed the permissions on the packages folder, all of its contents, and created a temp subfolder with 777 permissions. Then I reran the package manager. After a few seconds I got a new screen the had the following information:

Ã,·   Upshrink table created
Ã,·   Settings table created
Ã,·   Settings table updated
  o     Added 98 new setting(s)
Ã,·   Blocks table created.
o     some sample values were added to the blocks table
Ã,·   Variables table created.
o     some sample values were added to the variables table
Ã,·   Articles table created.
o     some sample values were added to the articles table
Ã,·   DL manager table created
Ã,·   Shoutbox table created
Ã,·   Shouts copied over
o     Added subtype,value7 and value8 in variables table

TinyPortalÃ,´s table structure is now installed/updated.
Please restart your forum to see the changes.

When I restarted the forum there was no change that I could see from the default SMF.  :tickedoff:  I have checked the database and the tables have been added.

OK I got it to work.   ;D
I did a modified version of a manual install.

  • I set up SMF and TP on my local test server running on windows.
  • I downloaded and copied the manual install files to the remote server.
  • Copied the following list of files to the remote server from my working local test site

index.php
SSI.php
Themes/default//index.template.php
Themes/babylon/index.template.php
Themes/default/Help.template.php
Sources/Subs.php
Sources/Load.php
Sources/ManagePermissions.php
Sources/Security.php
Sources/Errors.php
Sources/Profile.php

Since the package manager had already made the changes to the database everything now works

Using this method I did not have to do any manual editing to the above list of files, which is very error prone.

That's just what I was going to tell you to do  :2funny:
