So last night I decided to upgrade my SMF to 1.1.2. But in doing so, my Tiny Portal installation stopped working. So I updated the Tiny Portal install, but for some reason it still didn't work. So I just decided to delete the database files, and try to use the backup files made by the SMF upgrade. (the backup_smf files) But that didn't go very well either. So now, I have no forum. I do however have a .zip backup of the database from the day before, and also the same backup_smf files in a .zip file as well.

I PRAY that one you smarter-than-I people on this forum can help me. I'm willing to give you access to the FTP/MYSQL, whatever you need. Just PLEASE help me.

You can PM me, add me on msn (theoriginalpong@hotmail.com) or just email me.

Thanks for the help!!

I'm no expert by any means, but I'd install a fresh squeeky clean SMF 1.1.2 then import your database using phpMyAdmin (if you have a decent host with cPanel, they should allow zipped files of around 50MB so it should be no problem).  Once your database is uploaded you can download and install Tiny Portal and whichever other mods you wish to install.

Usually, I don't delete the database, I actually just leave it put then install a fresh forum then go into the settings.php file or use the repair-settings.php file to fix it so your old database can become your new database.

Le Pong

Yeah I tried that, but when I try to import the old database, I get an error and it doesn't work :(

When you upgrade, all the file will fall back to SMF Default files, so all mods you had installed will be lost, and there for, they also need to be reinstalled again.
So if you have upgraded the forum, just download the TP package IchBin posted in the installations board (sticky post) and install it through the package manager.

I deleted the SMF folder from my server, dropped the database, and reinstalled SMF.
Then went into mysql and tried to import the zipped backup, and I keep getting this error message.

#1007 - Can't create database 'database_1'; database exists

I originally deleted the database that the server was originally on. Rather foolishly I may add. I REALLY hope that I can still restore my folder with a new database. :(

Shane84

As I said before, I'm no expert, but have you tried to delete the codes telling it to create the database if it does not exist?  It should be the first thing in the script.

Everything after that code is what you really need, the database name doesn't matter at all.

Le Pong

Yeah I actually did try that :( But then it just kept getting errors with other tables trying to be created.

Do you have the correct database language set?  Letting phpMyAdmin choose is not always the best bet.  If it's just a standard English forum, try using the Latin ones, you may have to try more than one (I'd be more accurate in what to tell you but I can't remember what mine was off the top of my head).

Le Pong

Ah. That COULD also be a problem. If someone could confirm which one I should be using, that would be great! That was actually gonna be my next question, which language.

Shane84

Try a few of them, it won't hurt, if it fails, just drop whatever got uploaded before it got stuck :)
