How do I find a tech administrator?

Hi!  If this post is out of order, please delete and pm me?  Thanks.

I'm struggling with my forum... I had a technical administrator, but he had to resign, and that was after having been largely absent in the first place.  My site needs lots of care and attention from me on a content and promotion basis, but I can't get past some of the tech issues - such as upgrading and such.  Now I'm thinking of replacing my web site with a TinyPortal to support my forum, and having looked at the site of the month contest, I see that there's a lot that can be done with TP - but if I have to take up my time with figuring out how to do all the fancy stuff, I'm never going to get on with anything else - and that little problem has almost killed my board - active members gave up because I was so absent due to tech issues.

I REALLY need a tech person.  How do I find one, what's reasonable pay, etc?

SMF and TP are not too tough to learn really.
My personal advice would be to just spend some time and learn about this stuff and practice on a test site you set up.

Because if you hire a tech person you will always be Dependant upon them and quite often people volunteer and turn out to be total DUDS and mess up things even more.

QueenTiye

Thank you. Time is what I don't have much of, and that's the problem.

Well in case you absolutely must hire someone I would recommend putting them through some tests.

1. Ask to see some of the sites they have created / manage and confirm there if they actually manage it or not or even created them

2. Be sure to get to know them via chat before you hand over admin rights. Because apparently there is a group of people who live for this type of opportunity just to be able to hack the persons server and then talk about it.

3. It would be good to get people on a site to vouch for them. Preferably known people.

Also if you want someone from here, I would recommend talking to G6 (link to profile). Since she already offers some paid services. So you could PM her maybe and talk to her about that aspect in private.

QueenTiye

Thank you! I'd read her profile earlier and thought maybe I'd go that way. :-) Thank you for the good advice.

I am in the same situation.  I need someone with more technical experience than I do to help me with upgrades and add on software.  I am willing to pay the person when I find one.  I want help with placing ads, adding a database, chat, things like that.  How do I find someone? Please post here or email me! -Thanks -Aaron
