hi guys,
i'm new to smf or tp but quite experience in phpbb (lol)
recently i dicided to move from phpBB (pnphpBB to be exactly) to smf since smf (and TP) are great. greater than phpBB i think.
so from my prev site, i had 6500 more member and over 19000 post since 2004.
i manage to convert from pnphpBB to phpBB with ease and no prpoblem at all (all post and membership data are well converted)
then from phpBB, i manage to convert it to smf (and still with no problem at all, thank god there's convertion tool from here ). all post, all member data are totaly converted (even there are some "salvage" post, but for me it's not a problem at all)

but the problem is, when i created an article, then assign it to a category. then made a block (tries article block, category block, sitemap) all the link that supose to rever to the article are dead.
well it's not just dead i think, but error comes up like when you click it (the category link) with no article in it.
i check the database, they apear as they should (i think, since i tried both TP and SMF before without convertion and all are fine, made some cats, articles, all the links are fine)

i event tries to direct entry to the address bar and still the same problems comes up (like www.domain.com/smf/index.php?action=cat...)

can any body give me some suggestion here? cos i had like 300 article i like to include them in my site by TP mods. not in SMF boards.

please help me guys.
this probles frustate me much  :-\
thanks in advance

oh, i forget to add some infos,
i'm using SMF 1.1.2 and latest stable TP version.
and yes i already tries to convert it without TP first, then install TP arter it. but the problems still comes up.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand what error you are getting. You say you have an error, but you don't really give any specific words about what the error says. Also, a link to your site would be nice if at all possible.

taz.foxid

Quotebut error comes up like when you click it (the category link) with no article in it.
that's is my error, i'm sorry i can't provide you the detailed error to day because i'm online with my other pc. not my tested server. but i will provide more detailed error message tomorow (or tonight  ;D)

my site (www.fox-id.org) is down for a moment due my convertion progress and upgrading from my old server to stronger server (damn, that cost me more 20 bucks per month   :'()

any ideas what's goingon? this morning i checked again my tested server (the database) and all were fine except i'm still recive that error on articles.
i event tries to modifies the database (the catagory ID and article ID from 1 again, since TP use autonumbering. incase those ID cause the error. but stil no result.

why those error comes up only on converted site (phpBB to smf)? but works like a charm on fresh site (without convertion)?

i'm sure many of us do convertion (from phpBB to smf) but i can't find (in this forum) convertion from phpBB to smf with TP instaled (after or already installed on smf). just to fine a clue.

oh, i forgot.
when i make an article with no catagory assign, they all works fine to.
perhaps any code snippet to list my un-assign catagory article (at least the title) to any block (preferebaly on left block) so my user can view them?

Im sorry to say this, but i think you have to manually edit in all the articles you have by hand.
The converter from one forum software to another from SMF will not convert anything but the forum.
And as TP is a standalone modification for SMF, it's not included in the converter.
Im not 100% sure about this, but i do recall some older post about this issue, and that time i think they had to manually add in and sort all the old articles by hand.  :-\

taz.foxid

no. all article are made after convertion and after installed TP.
so they all new. no article converted from previous site because my old site use postnuke with pnPHPBB for the article.
so they all (both articles and catagory) are new after TP installed.
so basicly here's what i'm doin:

postnuke+pnphpbb -> phpBB -> smf -> TP -> adds some articles and cats

perhaps my bad english cause misunderstood or my brain that cannot describe detailed infos.
really sorry for that guys

hmm, i cant follow what you mean by saved in the archived. i'm totly new in both smf and tp.
where this archive anyway?

G6Cad

When you created the articles, you have some options of how they should be seen, bu who they should be seen, and other things, then you save the article in the categories you made, did you save them in a categorie, or just saved them?

Solved the problem
back in my home, turning up my tested server, checked again the database (tp-variables, tp-articles) found the problem
1. the article data in field author_ID doest match with current userID. mine, the article id is "2" but the author real id is "1"
2. there's something funny with field catagory in tp-article, their values doesn't macth with the current data in tp-variable (catagory ID). so i haad to syncronize them manualy (that's doesn't sound nice when you have 300 more article  :P).

so here's what i did:
1. update all the authorID from "2" to "1" (with query, that will done in 3 second)
2. update all the catagory values to "0" (no catagory)
3. update the article to their respective catagory. you have to ways doing this. by opening them in the admin section, or by query.
by admin section is the easiest way, but that will cost you more time.
by query will save a lot of your time but you have to force your brain or your eyes IF you have long "intro" or "body".
you choose  ;D

so people, for you that had converted from other bulletin (especially from phpBB or pnphpBB to smf and got tp installed, or install it afterward) double check your database. always making sure that the the data in tp-variable and the tp-article both are syncronize.
at least for me that solved my problem.
the worst part is, i had to manually edit those damn 300+ article. but since it does the trick, i will do it this morning (and i had not sleep lastnight  :buck2:) so much for community

MANY THANKS for the support guys!
