Hi , this is my first post. I would like to make or  add a countdown to my site , something like on the AI theme where I can add someones wedding date and when they log on to site they can see a count down to their wedding date , or to their graduation. Something where my members can add their  own input and each day it will count down the days.

Can anyone help me or point me in the right direction , I'm not that great in editing  but if ur willing to do it for me I will pay for it .

Thanks

An individualized countdown? Hmmmmm. That's an interesting thought.

You would probably want to start with installing the Custom Profile Field mod which is available over at the SMF site. Once you had it installed, you would want to add two fields -- one for the date and one for the event type. The users could then add their input through their profiles.

At that point, it would just be a matter of pulling the data from the database and plugging it into a countdown timer. You can see the one I like best at my site in the right column. But there are others available.

If this is something you'd like to pursue, go ahead and install the mod and I'll think about the php for it.

Looks  nice  but what I need  is  for  my  users  to put heir own data . Like someone may have a wedding  and some one might have an event  for example we  have  a party coming up in  July  for a 50th birthday and another for anniverasy. our site is a neighborhood  site and  events are happening all the  time, so when other  users log in  thay  can see all the count downs . Trust me we have alot of events and everyone is always asking  when is  so and sos's  wedding  , when is so and so's baby shower and so on

I'm not sure I understand. Let me give you an example.

I'm a member of your site. I enter the data for a party I'm having in April. When I go to your site, what would I see? Would I see...

There's x days y hours z minutes until your party on April 30

or

A list of everyone's events, all counting down at the same time

exactly !!!! Theres more  than one event . So everyone can see whos event is first , kinda like a list of events and their  countdowns

JPDeni

Ah. I don't know how to do that. I guess there is a way to do multiple countdowns on a page, but I've never been able to get it to work.

You could do it without an automatically refreshing display. So instead of counting down the seconds, for example, it would give the countdown as it stood at the moment the page was last refreshed.

If you want multiple automatic countdowns, though, maybe someone else can help.

lets  say  like a block that says upcoming events , when users click on it it shows a list of upcoming events ,when a user clicks on a event it shows a countdown for that event and a section to add another event. The upcoming events are inputed by users themselves.

Quotewhen a user clicks on a event it shows a countdown for that event
Where would it show? Could you make a mockup of what you want it to look like?

just a  script ,, when  users  click on it  it will show them   whos  event  and an option to post an event and a count down to each individuals event. thats  all

The ai theme has a count down to every holiday,, something like that so that each member who posts an event can come back and see their events count down.

The reason I'm asking so many questions is that there have been so many times when I've written code for someone and then they either change their minds about what they want or tell me that I've completely missed what they had in mind. I like coding, but I'd rather only do it once if I can get by with it.

I need a picture of what you want it to look like so I know how to write the script. Just type out some examples in a post. I can't picture where you want it to "them   whos  event". A separate window? A separate block? Within the block, above, below, to the side... of the list?

Quotesomething like that so that each member who posts an event can come back and see their events countdown.
Maybe it would be better if I pass this over to StormLrd, since he wrote AI. I don't do anything with themes.
