I am hoping one of the develpers can answer this for me.

We have recently converted a Vbulletin site to SMF 1.1.2 and installed TP 971 and we are about to begin uploading our extensive downloads to the TP downloads manager but before I do I need this question answered.

Upon the release of 98 will I have to uninstall 971 and what affect would this have on the downloads manager?

When 98 is then installed will the downloads manager then have to be redone?

We have over 2800 downloads to be entered into the downloads manager and I hate to think we would have to redo them every time a new version of the mod is released.

Will there be a way to just uninstall all the other mods installed after TP and then just upgrade the version of TP so the downloads manager doesn't have to be redone with each new version release of TP ?

Nearly every single release of TP so far only requires you to upload a package via Package manager which does the upgrade. It does not effect the data of your site in anyway, so no redoing of anything is required.

No it wont the file entries are stored in the database, so the tables are in most cases untouched on upgrades unless there is a huge change in database structure n the upgrade itself. Even in that case your existing data remains there so no areas get effected.

The only time all the mods need to be reinstalled is when there is an Upgrade of SMF itself. Even in that situation the TP settings, downloads, blocks and articles still remain the same as they were.

hope that helps

Yes AKU it does and relieves some tension I have been feeling lately as well.

I have had 1 site for over a year and still find the backend stuff daunting at times. Then when a friend and I aquired this extra and to boot large game fansite the tasks increased tenfold and so did the tension of wondering if I did everything right.

I'm slowly learning and I do enjoy what I'm doing.

Now I just have to figure out the template edits I need to do to have all the functionality we need for the large site and I'll be allset.

It's a never ending circle sometimes  :o but I do love it.

I too am fairly new to smf/tp backend stuff.I run 2 sites 1 is vb and really easy to customise and tp which to me is even more easy as every is index filed.

We converted from VB to smf for the larger of the 2 sites. None of us liked VB at all. And getting support for just a sight admin is non existant as they only allow 2 emails to be attached to the licence for support purposes and the site was on a network of about 8 sites before we took over so for us to get support to get things fixed was a real pain. If we could have got the needed support ourselves before we moved the site and got things that needed updaes updated we might still be using VB for the larger site but then I wouldn't have found TP and I like it better for customization so much easier for me.
