Is there an easy way to allow me to change the Author that is displayed with an article?  I run a sports website and have agreements with a number of writers who allow me to copy their articles into my database for archival purposes.  I'm trying to figure out a way to have their name displayed as the author (even though I'm entering the article) instead of just adding "Written by Bob Smith of Reuters" to the top of the article itself.

Any help would be much appreciated.  I'm very new to PHP and MySQL, so I apologize if this is an idiotic questioin.

Are you copying and pasting from another site or from your own site. If it is from your own site allow them to submit articles that you have approve, if you are copying and pasting from an external site not sure this is another way other then the way you are doing it.

What about going into the articles table in the mysql database and changing the name there (using phpadmin)?
I have not tried it. I have looked at the articles table but am not sure of the consequences of changing the username associated with the article file record. Anyone else tried this?

I actually tried that with one article as a test.  While it shows the correct author's name when I'm in edit mode, it still shows my name when the article is displayed - I'm sure it's pulling the author ID instead of the name.

Porkrind - these are articles that I copy from other sites.  Bob Smith might have an article appear in The Charlotte Observer and he's allowing me to copy it to my own site as long as I give a ref back to the Observer.  It's stricly so I can keep an archival database and not worry about links changing.

Is there a workable solution for this yet?

The trouble is that authorID and author name are linked..because of the editing your own articles feature.

What you need will be an extra field for the article, one that can be used for example to list source author. :) That is a feature that will be added.
