Downloads Manager Access Problems

I am very new to Tiny Portal and have discovered I have a problem with the downloads manager.

I set up a special membergroup and gave manage downloads permissions to the user. She uploaded a file as seen here

When I click the download button I get this error

When in admin panel and checking the downloads manager through admin the file does not register as being uploaded

Yet when I check through ftp the file is on the server

I tried setting the downloads folder permissions to 777 and then tried the downloads button again but again got the access error in the screen above.

What have I done wrong and how can I fix it. We have a fair number of files for this site.

I also have another site with this same version of SMF & TP and we have over 2800 files to add but I am very reluctant to start adding until I have the problem resolved with the site I posted the screens for.

I am using the latest version of SMF 1.1.2
And Tiny Portal Version 0971

With an added DilberMC TP compatable theme
with the following installed mods

Check a few things please.

1) Under Download Manager --->  Settings

The option 'All uploads must be approved?' is set to 'No, but permission to upload will still be needed'


2) And then check under
Download Manager --->  Submissions
If the file submitted is awaiting approval or not.

If it dosent work, then please retry and upload the file and see if it works or the problem still occurs.

Thank you AKU that seems to have fixed the problem with this site. However with the other site we want this feature to work with, we need to have the

" Yes, except the membergroups that can manage downloads." option enabled so we can do what is needed before the file is approved for release to the general members.

When SMF was installed it automaticlly put myself in an administrator user group with all permissions and no restrictions. I renamed this usergroup to webmaster and created an administrator membergruop for the admins and added the needed permissions for the forums & downloads manager etc.

With total permissions should I have had this problem at all?? I could see it if I was in a membergruop with a somewhat limited permission but with all permissions and no restrictions whatsoever I'm just wondering why I got the errors I did.

I have recently done the update to SMF 1.1.2 for the security patch needs. Could this possibly be the issue with the permissions.

As mentioned earlier I am still somewhat new to figuring out this end of website management and totally new to the Tiny Portal experience and just trying to understand why some things happen the way they do. I so wish I had the knowledge of the rest of you here. God bless you all for what you do and for putting up with those of us who always seem to need that extra bit of help.

I am wondering if someone can answer this for me. on the 1 site this is no longer and issue but on the game fansite I have we need the files to first be approved before they are made available to the site members.

In the downloads manager we have the settings set to yes all files need approval.

the uploads are going fine but when you go into the admin panel and then the sownloads manager click on submissions and then scroll down to

I get the "you don't have access" error messege. This is not a good thing for this site. We have mass submissions from young kids whose submissions can cause game crashes and files with errors in them that have to checked and rejected or approved. I'm getting this messege as well and I have no permission restrictions at all.

If the admins can't get to these files through the downloads manager to approve them what do we do now.

I can't have the no option checked because then all files would automatically be approved and the standards we have set for our downloadable content would go down the tubes.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. I have temporarily selected no for now as the files are just being done from the old database and we know they are good as they have already be tested for release on the old version of the site and the upload permissions are not yet sdet for members. But when all of this is done and upload permissions set for members we will need to change the option to yes so the submitted files are set in queue for just access by admin staff for testing before approval.

After setting to no all the files that were previously awaiting approval are still in the queue but I can't leave this setting at no for when we set the member permissions to allow members to upload files for submission.

Now I know I have something wrong I didn't even think to check the error logs after it happened so went to check them when I saw your post.

We recently had a server issue and were off line for 2 days. We have been back online since Monday and I have over 3500 pages of errors in the log and have no idea what to look for to correct them I really no nothing about html or php except to copy and paste code when what to look for and what to add or replace is made available. Unless someone says look for code $$$$$ and replace with code $$$$$$ or add code $$$$ I'm ok but to look at the line numbers listed in the errors and try to fix it I'm lost.

If you'd like I'll take a look at them? Can't guarantee I'll fix them all, but I'm sure I could fix a few. Feel free to PM me a temp admin account and an FTP account if you'd like. Otherwise, just post your errors here and we'll see what we can do with them one by one.

Somewhat related we have stumbled accross another problem. We have some very large (for us anyway) 13 and 16mb files we have tried to upload through the downloads manager in the admin panel. but the lagre files give a "took to long" or "file to big" error messege. This happens even with a 2.85mb file. I have the files size limit set real high to try and avoid this error but it doesn't seem to help at all.

Does anyone know of a reason this could be occuring.
