I messed up my TP SMF installation some time back, but just haven't had time to deal with it.

Error messages popup everytime I load the domain.

The MySql db indicates no errors when I access from Cpanel

I think I'd like to just start over, wipe the TP and SMF program files, use the existing MySql db.

I've tried a few things:

1) FTP all the files from the full install of SMF, I did not run the install.php.

2) I then FTP the Upgrade version of SMF on top of the full install of SMF, since I didn't want to create a new MySql db. Then I got an error message about the db not being accessible.

I have not reloaded the TP 0.9.71 over the SMF, maybe that's my problem.  I've decided to just stop where I am.

I think it would be a best go to just start over, but I sure would like to keep and use the original MySql db.  It has a lot of information I need on the site, like forums, categories, users, postings, etc.

I'd appreciate any help on just doing a clean install of the whole thing, and still use my current MySql db.

Thanks

I would just try to get smf working first without TP. Do you have and backup of your old site? Use that then upgrade to SM 1.1.1

domineaux

I was using 1.1 RC3

I tried upgraded SMF 1.1 Final, but instead it was 1.1.1.  I didn't realize it was 1.1.1 until I tried to install the TP.  Anyway, I think it's 1.1 RC3

The MySqldb includes the TP db entries as well.  I'm not sure that would make a difference as far as accessing the MySql with just the SMF installed.  I can't get the site up so I just thought to bump and run...start over.

It should load without tp installed. Think TP as an add on mod and not system files. The tp data is still thier but just not being called. So see if you can get SMF working first.

Sorry

It won't load.

I tried a fresh install in another folder forums2/   I used fantastico Cpanel and I got a clean install of 1.1.1.

I'm not much on MySql, but I did change the settings.php in the 1.1.1 forums.  I applied the old MySql names in the settings.php and it wouldn't access the MySql after that.

Sounds like the password or user name to the data base is wrong. Can you add a new user with a new password to your data base??

I cannot get the forums to load to add a user.  I haven't tried in mySql and I don't know password to it.  My settings.php and .bak are not showing a password.   password is '', which isn't right.

I did run the phpadmin and try to find the MySql password to access the db, but couldn't find it.  I'm sure it's available somewhere on the server I just don't know where it is.

I went into the MySql and deleted the user for the MySql db, and created another user and password.  I then ran the repair_settings.php tool and everything looked good.

Connection Problems
Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.

Server isn't busy, I just get this error message when I try to load the forums.  I installed another SMF in /forums2/  and it is accessing the forums2 db fine.

The forums/ database looks to be in good order when I run the check or repair tool in cpanel on it.  I get all OKs on the report.

I can't believe this is such an issue. LOL
