Hello all,

I'm new to SMF/TP and recently brought up a forum with SMF 1.1 and TP 0.96. Before I install 0.97 I'm curious to as what all I need to do. It took me a bit for the initial install, but once I figured it out it was pretty easy.

Anyways, do I simply uninstall and delete .96 and then install .97?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you

So I was gonna wing it and try to unistall 96 ...

3.     Execute Modification     ./Themes/default/index.template.php     Test failed
6.     Execute Modification     ./Sources/ManagePermissions.php     Test failed

I tried changing the permissions on these folders to 777 ... still same error.

Definitely don't want to proceed without guidance. I have quite a few add ons that I really don't want to loose and above all lose the data in the database. I have made backups just in case though.

Thanks

So I just tried to simply upload and install 97 with 96 still running ...

8.     Execute Modification     ./index.php     Test failed
9.    Execute Modification    ./Sources/Load.php    Test failed
10.    Execute Modification    ./Themes/default/index.template.php    Test failed
11.    Execute Modification    ./Themes/babylon/index.template.php    Test failed
12.    Execute Modification    ./Sources/Subs.php    Test failed
13.    Execute Modification    ./Sources/ManagePermissions.php    Test failed
14.    Execute Modification    ./Sources/Security.php    Test successful
15.    Execute Modification    ./Sources/Errors.php    Test successful
16.    Execute Modification    ./Themes/default/style.css    Test successful
17.    Execute Modification    ./Themes/default/Help.template.php    Test failed
18.    Execute Modification    ./Sources/Profile.php    Test successful
19.    Execute Modification    ./SSI.php    Test successful

Thought it might be permissions, so I set all the above failed to 777 and still failed :(.

Any help is grealty appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

If you used the TP V.096 hack that was posted, you need to remove that first before you install Tp V.097
Also if you have any other mods installled that effects the files you get errors from, you need to remove them to in order to install TP through the manager. It's this, or the manuall install you have to do

I read about that hack, but I did not have to use it ... .96beta worked just fine with SMF 1.1 for me. Now those two errors I got on the uninstall, those aren't from mods ...

Then you have to go with the manuall install package and copy and paste the code manually to the SMF files.
If you dont have any other mods installed, you can use the premade zip file in the installations board so you wont have to copy and paste any code att all, just upload and replace the  old files with new ones from both the manuall install package, and the premade files in the zip

So I have to go through and do all the changes described in the Mod_instructions_SMF11rc.html file? Wow... Well, the normal upgrade process, is it an uninstall/install or install on top of? Is it normal that my uninstall fails? Can I ignore the errors on uninstall and still proceed? The only things I will loose are my mods correct? Sorry for all the questions, but still new to this and trying to learn before I start making mistakes.

Thanks

G6Cad

In the manuall install package you have a mod instructions HTML file, click that and you have a very fine page to look at. You dont have to do this step if you use the premade files as they have the code in them allready. But if you have any other mods installed, they will be lost if you use them.

And you dont have to uninstall TP before you install TP V.097, when you upload all the files from the manual install package, all files will be replaced (make sure they do), and when you upload the premade files you have a fresh update made of TP after you have pointed your browser to the manual_tp_install.php file for the DB update.

mrbean17

Many apologies for the noobness here, but just to clarify and ensure I know what I'm doing ...

- Download TP_097_files_only
- Upload contents, overwrite source files
- Follow Mod_instructions_SMF11rc.html to the T
- Run manual_tp_install.php from a browser

Correct?

I guess what I'm curious to know here is to as why I'm failing to simply upload .97 (see post 3 for the errors). Was this something I did incorrectly?

Thanks for all your help here G6, it is much appreciated.

Your steps are correct :)

Why you get errors from the files i dont know, but most common is that you have or have had a mod installed before that have made changes to the files and the code strings TP searches for and need to change.
If the installed doesent find the strings it looks for, it gives an error on that file
