I was just reading something about you can't make static web pages in Tinyportal.  You must add yet another mod for it.

I want a CMS.  But I don't want Joomla or Drupal...or any of the others.  I want SMF.  I want a site/forum/gallery/blog all in one.  With mods...I already have a forum/gallery/blog in one.  But what about the site?  I thought Tinyportal was the site.  Are the "articles" not basically the same thing as static web pages?

I'm also confused about the mods that come with Tinyportal.  I've already added the links mod.  I've already added the gallery mod.  When your mods are ready will I need to uninstall the ones I have to use them?

Thanks, in advance, for any help.

I dont exactly know what you mean by static pages but if you mean a "stand alone - non themed" page seperate from TP, then yup u cant have that from WITHIN TP...meaning u will have to create it externally an link it up via a normal hyperlink.

Ive requested that such things be included, but no replies yet.

But if you mean a normal page, within TP, like the articles - then u already know the answer :D

As for mods - the links and gallery isnt ready yet, but once it is - it wont interfere with any existing mods  so u will have the option of keeping ur old mods, or porting everything over to the new ones.

hope that helps

Yes, we need to know what you expect for "static web pages in Tinyportal".

Reading in static content (from some html/text file) and presenting it is certainly possible, but it would, of course be 'in TinyPortal'.

And, obviously, articles can be straight 'static' web pages.

TP is merely a mod for SMF, it has the ability to show "static web pages"..but they are stored as chunks of html in the database, rather than as physical html files. You call them by adding page=xxx where the xxx is the db number(that will cange to be a name rather).

"mods" to TP...maybe "modules"? Thats really just a name for functions in TP that can be turned off and on. More will be built in, but right now its just a download section. A  gallery section, link section and teampage is going to emerge though. The on/off are there already, but they do not work as of now.

Then there is also some people who have made "modules" that you need to add manually to TP. Like FelBlog for example. In the future that will also be better, as just adding the files in a "modules" folder will be all needed.

All in all TP will mimic a site, or pages..but its really all driven from just a single file: the index.php inside the forum folder. Whats added in query decides what section/function will be shown, be it normal forum or TP sections.

At the risk of contradicting you on the capabilites of your own software, you most certainly 'can' use TP to present the contents of external ('physical html') files.

As shown in this message:

php can read in file contents and echo them back out, so whatever page builder a person would like to use can still be used (if they don't want to store it as an entry in the database for whatever reason). It would still require an article and the ?page=XXX link, of course, though a single article with file identifier as passed in argument is possible so the one article can handle an arbitrary number of files.

Thank you all for answering.

Here I've added some pages (articles): http://dawnswebdesigns.xenweb.net.  Then I created a block, called it menu, & linked to the pages/articles & other stuff in there.  What sucks is if you click on 3 of those pages (all actually articles) a second menu appears & those 3 pages are the only links in the menu.  But it don't suck so bad that I'm willing to drop TP.  It's a lil weird but it still functions & I personally love TP.

Course now I'm wondering if I should add the other mod for static web pages & save the articles for things like customer testimonials?  Decisions decisions.

But thanks for answering so quickly & thanks for all your help. :)

We are waiting with baited breath Sir Bloc!  ;D

Dawn...
Not sure if this is what you are going for, but it sounds somewhat like the issue that I was having with trying to get several articles into a single page, but with only one article showing at a time.
Aku pointed me to his how-to located HERE and I used it to pull my HTML pages with the articles into a single SMF/TP page using his code in a TP article.
You can see the result HERE.
At this point there are only two HTML articles posted within the TP article, but it will take however many I want to place there by simply building more HTML pages and adding to the links that you see just above whichever article is currently displayed.

A php article allows you to simply include the html pages. Its a bit "raw" though, you have to make sure the css of the html don't crash with forum etc.

But a option to include static files, would probably use just that. Plus some filtering perhaps, and certainly the ability to locate the file instead of typing it in.
