Collapsed Block Will Not Stay Open

Hi,

When I log in to my portal, the Search block is collapsed. I can open the Search block, but as soon as I navigate away from the home page, the block collapses again! 

If I log out, the problem goes away (so it is not a problem with the basic code). Similarly, if I change the template to any of the standard templates, it still doesn't work (so it is not a problem with my template). I have even tried logging out and deleting my cookies, but that didn't help

Therefore, I can only assume the setting is stored in the database somewhere. I have searched for "search" and "collapse" in the database, but nothing I have tried has worked.

Please let me know how to solve this, as I think this would really wind up my users, if it happens to one of them.

Try editing the block so it cannot collapse at all, test it, then switch back.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it makes things even worse - now the expand/collapse link has gone, but the block is collapsed, and no way of expanding it! (see attached).

It is strange that this only affects one block... 

Any more ideas, anyone?
