Try change "$modSettings['custom_avatar_url']" to "!empty($modSettings['custom_avatar_url'])" in TPmodules.php like it done in ManageAttachments.php http://dev.simplemachines.org/mantis/view.php?id=3623 For me it solves the problem :)
