another FYI - they claim that apache does not like the ";" and that on their systems, "and most newer systems" apache ignores anything after the first ";"

They were running: Apache version 2.2.9 (Unix)

They are full of crap. lol I run apache on Unix at my work on many servers, and also on my own personal server. It is not a problem with apache. Its a problem with the administration of apache. You're better off moving to a new host.
