Battousai

Hello,

My name is Nicolas, and i will be launching my new gaming community in the beggining of June: Geneon Gaming

I am currently looking mainly for two things:

  • Some advice about possible themes / mods i'm going to use.
  • Volunteer writers and moderators.

For the first point, I want opinions about the main theme i should use, i was thinking on a dark one, but not too dark.. if you know what i mean.
I will probably use TinyPortal v0.98 too, so if it's possible, a theme updated to work with that mod.

I'm also needing advice with the mods i should install.
I was thinking in a couple of them, like:
Custom Profile Field
SMF Gallery
SMF Arcade
Paypal Donations (Since i don't want to put any ads)
MessagePreviewOnMouseOver
SMF Links

And maybe:
User Control Panel
Favicon Mod
SMF Shoutbox (Not at the beggining, maybe later)

And others...
But, what others?.. i need your help with that :)

Ok, let's move on to the other topic: Volunteer writers and moderators.

Thanks for taking the time to read my proposal, and also for helping me take some decisions regarding our new community: Geneon Gaming

I hope to hear from GeneonGaming's future staff soon :)

Just a little tip for the themes.  If you look in the downloads section you will find many themes.  Also there is the themeshop where you can purchase themes if you cannot find a free one to your liking.  Also Tiny Portal mod has a built in shout box so unless you just want the smf shout box Tp will solve that one too.  Hope this helps.

Battousai

Yes, it does help.
Just a little question:

In the Downloads section it says this:
*TP themes for SMF 1.1 Final (13)
*Bloc Themes (SMF 1.1.x / TP 0.9.x ) (66 files) / SMF Themes that will work - and are updated - to be used in SMF 1.1 final.

It doesn't say 1.1.2.

Those themes are perfectly compatible with SMF v1.1.2?

Thanks in advance

tick

Yes those themes are compatible with the latest versions of smf/Tp   One thing to notice when you click on the themes sometimes the folders contain both smf and Tp versions.  Be sure you get the right one that you need.   Thats a pretty common mistake around here.   :)

Advice for the mods? Just give them a try. Sometimes it boils down to whether you like using them or if they seem to be too much trouble for you or not.

Battousai

Yeah, i guess i'll just have to try them.

Anyway, still looking for staff, going to start this saturday, tomorrow night i'll have everything ready i think.

Ohh, and also, do you recommend me any themes to use?

Thanks :)

Skhilled

That's also a matter of personal taste. I just don't look at the color scheme but also link placement. Are they links/buttons easily found or do they confuse you?

I prefer to use a variety of themes with different color schemes and put them in a theme selector. Some light, some dark, some middle of the road. Then, I let the users decide which ones they like to use. It personalizes their web experience when they are given more choices.

You have to keep in mind that more themes means more work. You'll have to modify each one of them for most mods you install.

Battousai

Yeah, i think i'll stick with Aa new damage theme for now, and then i'll be adding more, that way it'll be like something new to the site, i mean... to let the users know we are doing something :)

I already installed like 10 mods to Aa new damage hehe... now i have to customize everything...

And hope fully today (really late) or tomorrow it'll be released :)

Still looking for Staff :)
