Frontpage Portal?

This isn't so much an error I'm experiencing, but a question on the capabilities of the mod.  I've been using SimplePortal since I first set up my SMF site.  I've also used the subaccounts mod and SimplePortal plus subaccounts apparently causes an error when people switch accounts on the forum index.  Since I haven't found a solution from either of those, I want to switch over to TinyPortal and escape that annoying bug.

Does TinyPortal have any kind of standalone portal feature like what SimplePortal has?  Or is there some kind of workaround?  My portal was always located at markedrp dot com.  But SMF is installed in the /forum directory, and I really don't want to move my entire directory structure up one in order to preserve my board's address.

Hi Gossamer,

Unfortunately, you are going to be disappointed.  At this time, what you are asking for is not possible with TinyPortal.  That is not to say that it might not be possible in a future version of TinyPortal but, right now, that's not how it works.  Some examples follow ...

This site without TinyPortal installed (both or either) ...
TinyPortal Forum --> http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php
TinyPortal Forum --> http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?action=forum

This site with TinyPortal installed ...
TinyPortal FrontPage --> http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php
TinyPortal Forum --> http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?action=forum

If SMF is installed in the root of your site without TinyPortal installed (both or either) ...
your Forum --> http://markedrp.com/index.php
Your Forum --> http://markedrp.com/index.php?action=forum

If SMF is installed in the root of your site with TinyPortal installed ...
Your TP FrontPage --> http://markedrp.com/index.php
Your Forum --> http://markedrp.com/index.php?action=forum

If SMF is installed in the forum folder of your site without TinyPortal installed (both or either) ...
Your Forum --> http://markedrp.com/forum/index.php
Your Forum --> http://markedrp.com/forum/index.php?action=forum

If SMF is installed in the forum folder of your site with TinyPortal installed ...
Your TP FrontPage --> http://markedrp.com/forum/index.php
Your Forum --> http://markedrp.com/forum/index.php?action=forum

So, in other words, at this time, the SMF Forum and TinyPortal work on the same url and you can't have a separate TP FrontPage in a different location.

If you want to request this a feature of TP, feel free to click on this link --> http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?project=1;area=issues;sa=report

Once you are there, just select "Feature" rather than "Bug" as the type.  You may select TP2 as the version if you'd like since something like this will not be added to TP 1.0.  It's likely too late for that.  Title the Report and put your request into the text area below and click "Report Issue."  You might also want to put a link to this topic into the report.

Now, with all that being said, I can think of some creative experimentation that could possibly be done and might even work.  For instance, if you had 2 SMF Forums setup, one in your root and one in the forum folder, and they both used the same database, and you did some creative coding in the subs.php file of the one in the root to change the Forum button on the Nav Bar to go to the Forum in the forum folder, you could use the TP FrontPage on the install in your root and turn off the TP FrontPage on the install in your forum folder.  Hmmm, that probably sounds kind of confusing.  That might indeed work but I would have to think long and hard about that one and I just don't think I'm up to trying to do an experiment like that especially right now when we are trying to get the next version of TP out.  It just sounds too crazy.  Might just be better to put in the Feature request I mentioned above and hope for the best.

Thank you for the response!  It's a shame it isn't  possible at the moment, but I've submitted a feature request and I'll keep my fingers crossed.  In the meantime, I suppose I'll look into whether or not redirecting from an index.php file at my forum root is a viable solution.

Thanks again!
