I do so like this section and am so happy that it is still available. The question I have is about the order of the subcategories.

We set up the categories with the subs for each different "kind" offered and when done we noticed that one got left out. No biggie we just added the subcategory...lol

wellllllll, hen viewing in the admin section it is in alphabetical order --as we want it to be -- but when going into the download section the new sub is listed last.

How do I get it to be listed where it should be listed?

I was wondering also, we are just setting this up and do not have it showing (listed for the members can see the link) but I notice there are already downloads being done....I checked with a non admin account. There is no visible link anywhere, so how are there downloads being made?

In the admin section there is a number field before all categories names - add numbers in increasing order and the listing will follow that order.

yes but this is the sub categories not the main ones...when I click the main categories name to show its subs there are only little folder icons with no place to set their order

Interesting.  I guess I never noticed that before because I don't use that many sub-categories.  We can see if Bloc will put the capability in a future version to order the sub-categories like he does the categories.

If you don't trust your fingers, you might want to backup your database before doing the following.

In the meantime, it you want to do this yourself, you can go into PHPMyAdmin into your database and manually change the ordering of the sub-cats.  If you browse the smf_tp_dlmanager table you will see dlcat types (the categories and sub-categories) and dlitem types (the actual downloads).  If you look at the "downloads" fields for the dlcat types this is where you would order your sub-categories.  Put your sub-categories in the order you want them to be in and number them in a text file so that you won't lose track.  If you have 50 sub-cats and want them alphabetical then your first "A" will be 1 in the downloads field for that dlcat and your last "Z" will be 50 in the Downloads field.

I hope I was clear on that.  If you have a lot of Sub-Cats, this will take you a little while but, at this time, that would be the only way to reorder your sub-cats.

Let us know if that does what you are looking for.

I will try this later tonight when I get some quiet time, my mother has alzheimers and when she is awake it is like having a small naughty child around...lol

I will do it from the database.

FWIW, Mr. Bloc has already added this as a feature into the next public release of TP.  To read about it Click Here ---> http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?action=bugtracker;sa=bug442

thanks will go read all about it. things only get better with each entity of its existence. This is what keeps your software strong, not like a lot of others that make promises and "improvements" that in reality mess things up worse.

keep up the great work, I am all for easy updates...lol
