Hello,

I want to learn PHP and wondered if anyone knew of a good book or software for it.

I'd be able to help people out more and help myself.  :)

Thanks!

IchBin

The biggest suggestion I can give would be to dive in! :) Start with the internet tutorials. There's a great place fore beginners with video tutorials from some guy in Australia at www.phpvideotutorials.com
Another place with some short tuts is www.tizag.com

Once you're done with that grab some small scripts and tear them apart and try to make them do something additional to what they already have. Just a start...

Thanks IchBinâ„¢,

Someone gave me that link before but there weren't as many tutorials at that time. Thanks for pointing me to it again. I went through the first 3 tuts and had fun and learned a lot. I have the two programs installed for php and mysql running on my computer. Much easier than looking for free webspace or using a sub folder and another db for testing. Now I can do it on my computer!!! I set up a stock install of smf and tp on it and got it running no problem. Now I just have to clean out the cob webs, match the db name and modified location for dl'ed db backup file, and prefix and I should be able to redo my site if needed without any problems.

Thanks, IchBinâ„¢

Much appreciated.

And of course there is PHP's official in-depth online manual at http://www.php.net/manual/en/.

Much thanks, Nikki Sixx!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am going to check out those links.  I too am trying to better my coding skills.  Thanks for the links.

Look at "PHP and MySQL For Dynamic Websites - Second Edition" by Larry Ullman. (About $30 at BAM but try a good library too.)

I thoroughly enjoyed the format of the book and the examples built upon previous examples. It covered everything I wanted to learn at the time.
