Editing Permissions in the Settings File or Database

So. My host sucks (Host Gator). When trying to edit permissions in the software (admin>tinyportal), my host security keeps blocking it with mod_security, and won't allow the settings to save. Here is the error I get:

QuoteNot Acceptable!

An appropriate representation of the requested resource could not be found on this server. This error was generated by Mod_Security.

It's not the software. It's the host. I've been on chats with them multiple times and they can't resolve it. They even whitelisted the entire domain but it keeps happening. The only way I can get around it is to manually edit the files themselves on the server with File Manager. This is not for EVERYTHING, but occasionally a setting will trigger the host security when I try to save. It's annoying and as soon as I have the time and resources, I intend to move my sites to a new host.

But for now, I need to edit some settings. At the moment, I'm trying to edit the article settings so a custom membergroup I created has permission to view articles. Here is the path to the setting in question:

► TP admin
► Categories
► Edit

I'm trying to add "Ambassador" to the "Membergroups that can see this category". Can anyone tell me what file or database table to edit to manually add this permission?

I can't help you with the file or database stuff, but I can Sympathise with your hosting situation.

I was running this site and all my other sites on HostGator for many years without issues, in fact they were one of the best value hosts around at the time.  Then they got taken over by EIG (Endurance International Group) in 2015 and it all went down hill from there, the support turned from great to really bad.

When the start of the SSL requirements they wanted a fortune just to provide a SSL cert.  https://www.websitebuilderinsider.com/who-owns-hostgator/

In 2017 I decided to move everything to a new host. Currently with Crocweb who touch wood have been absolutely fantastic, and really helpful from day one.  They even moved all my sites for me free of charge, and it was fast and painless.

Hope you can get this resolved.  ;)
