It puts it where I don't want the box -- I want it RIGHT under the banner, yet above the nav buttons. And I wish to rem the user stuff there.  Hell, the thing is, this ad box WORKS where it was. Hell, I'd have not changed the theme except after the update to rc 1. the page was all "skinnied up" and i couldn't figure out how to fix that. Look at this site of mine: http://www.legioix.org same kind of thing. Fussilet was going to fix the index.template but bam, he was gone and I never heard from him again. I wish I could program, but it makes my eyes glaze over and little puffs of smoke come out of my ears.

I'll attach the index.template I used to use, that worked... After the update, it didn't. I am told this is because of how TP now uses themes, they don't need special TP coding or something. Can I take it out? What do I take out? Aaiiiiihhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Special code edits for themes are no longer required for TinyPortal.  If you have errors in your error log like those shown below then the theme still has some old code that targets TinyPortal 0.9 and would need to be removed in order for the theme to work correctly.

Honestly Marsh, I know that you really, really like your old themes (can you say ancient?) but isn't it about time to admit that it might be time for you to look for some newer themes that are a little more modern, or at least themes that the author still supports, so that you can get some support for issues like this.  And, if you are going to use TinyPortal, why not take advantage of it as WillyP suggested?  If you really need to have this code in the header, why not look into a Mod that will let you add that kind of code there, like the Global Headers and Footers Mod.  It seems that you already have it installed on your site though a newer version is available now.  I don't understand why you "Want to rem, won't let me" as it would be perfect for this code and would keep you from having to ask for theme support every time you wanted to change every little thing in the theme's index.template.php.

We really don't have the time here to figure out how to make themes work that aren't even supported by their author's, even making them work for TP.  We do well just to support TinyPortal most of the time without having to try to fix every little problem that every user has.  The TP Team just does not have enough people to handle stuff like this.  Give us a little break here Marsh.

It's not that I like my old themes. They have to be ones I can work with. Each has to have the right keywords and banner for that time period.  I am not wedded to TPmeadows. I would prefer to just mod the default theme as it is easier and quicker. Really. All I want to know is how to add the ad box container I have at the top of the page. Where they are in old theme; why? Well because those make MONEY. Really. Since this update, my google ad revenue has been cut in HALF. Bad me.

I came to TP because I could not make joomla work nor afford to pay someone to do it for me. That was what I tried first. Static pages take too much upkeep and my site is too big w/ too many links to manually do it. Thus my link mod. Have to have that.

Like I said, I just want to use modded default themes. Look different by changing the CSS. Yaaaay. I am not a coder. I am a web geek. I have a background in desktop publishing and am into layout and stuff. I think I have a successful website as it has two google #1's and pays for itself. How many can say that? I just need to get things to work.

Does this explain why I'm such a pain in the ass? A lot of stuff comes to a grinding halt until I can fix things. What do I know? Me stupid truck driver w/ slow old computer. Going to Starbucks, then back to work on Roman manual. BTW, the theme on the Roman page I referenced, well, I will prob make a new one off of default, then start copying art and crap over to get it to work -- Can make some nice Roman looking buttons. I just liked what I had. And the damn thing works fine when logged-in.

Oh yeah, I get tons of errors, I have no idea what they mean. PAGES upon pages. I deleted the shout box due to that and they're still there.

Alas, I tried it, and whilst it works, sort of, it puts the ads below the nav buttons and in between the right and left blocks. Is there a way for me to move this? I need the ad I am talking about in a specific place.

And HOW do I remove the user info area thing? Like in yonder screen capture I am attaching?

Yes, it is possible to move the ads. It is not as simple as saying open x file and add y code in location z, though. You will probably have to do some trial and error to get it just right, I know I would. Make a back-up of the file, first, and you can always go back to what you had.
Same with the user info area, open the file and take a guess as to what needs to be removed. If you get it removed, but the html is a little messed up, take a look with fire bug and you should see what is wrong.

Look, if you want a custom paint job or a souped up motor for your truck, you have two choices... pay someone to do it, or learn how and do it your self. Tiny portal is like a free souped up motor for your forum, and the themes are like a free custom paint job. Between Tiny Portal and themes and mods for SMF, you can get a modded up forum for free. There are thousands of variations you could have without doing anything more than installing and checking off some choices. But you don't like the cam that comes with the souped up engine or the pin-striping on the trick paint job offered for free. Which is fine! I respect the fact that you are dogged about getting everything exactly the way you want, but there comes a point where you will either have to settle for 'just ok', learn how to do it yourself, or hire a coder to do it for you.

I did have a coder. He's currently MIA. Why do you think I use the default theme? It's simple and works. If I mod it, it's usually easy. I have had tpmeadows now for like 3 years. I was just going to start changing the css a bit at a time. Hell, if I can get the box where I want it, I will just use the default on all of them.

I KNOW it's all a kludge and mish-mash, but for the most part, it works. It only stops working when something is updated and then all the other things don't anymore. I wish it made more $$, I'd be able to pay real money for someone to fix things. I don't have it now. Trying to get back where it was. The update to rc. 1 really made a lot of things that were working, not work. Hell, it took weeks just to find that out. I TRIED to just add the table where I thought it would go, I copied the code from other stuff and did try. Have NO IDEA where I messed up, but I am not a coder. I wish mine would reappear.

Here's a simple question: How do I make something not work in the code? Isn't there a simple bit of code I can put in front of a line to make it not work? Let's start there.
