What's going on here?

here is what i would do..

stop and breath, you are ok..

go get the large upgrade smf

upload it to your site via ftp

go to the url that is yours and add /upgrade.php onto the end..

then go from there

I downloaded the file + replaced them via FTP.. I type in my domain + /upgrade.php and get a not found.

if I just go to my domain it's allowing me to install , but I was trying to avoid that.. unless someone can help me restore a database

I have read through a lot of your posts, some are going well, some are not,

When you upload and replace your files on the server as we tell you, are you SURE the new files actually overwrite the old ones ?
It's strange that you cant get things to work, so im starting to think your files are locked and that they dont get overwritten when you try and replace them ??

Normally when ever i overwrite something it does the job by over writing it. I just don't know what's going on .. I've had to restart my forum multiple times and this time I'm not wanting to do so.....so I just want my board back up.

Normally when ever i overwrite something it does the job by over writing it. I just don't know what's going on ..

Phil, I don't know what FTP client you are using, but I initially used the Windows XP FTP service, and found that it was unreliable. I had some partial file writes where code was missing, which caused many many problems at first- the file names were there, but the required code wasn't.

In turn, I used Filezilla (from www.snapfiles.com), which worked great for me...  and I haven't had any FTP-related issues since.

looks like I got everything back to normal with that upgrade file..it was asking for the install and then I used  my local server host so it can connect to. everything is sill available with forum post's and members, but only thing that I wonder is if the passwords are gonna be fine for the forum members...my password worked fine, but I just hope it does for the rest

People, people, PEOPLE! Lets  do a recap here. First, we have Crip telling Phil to delete anything TP in the FTP. Then we have smoky telling him to delete what is in the database.... Does any of this sound like good complete advice? I submit to you, NEH! It is not good advice. If you're going to do support here you need to give complete instructions and not just part of the puzzle. Lets analyze why...

If going by Crips advice by removing anything with TP in the FTP. What do you have left after that? You have all the files that belong to SMF that are edited by TP. Leaving all the TP code in these files will cause all sorts of errors.

Then we go by smoky's advice to remove the database tables. So now what do we have? We have no TP files, no database tables, and we still have all the code in the SMF files that TP has edited calling for those tables and TP files. Does anyone see a pattern here yet? Smoky touched on the large upgrade package, but didn't give much information after that.

Now comes a post with instructions by yours truly and even with a link to the manual install instructions. I wonder, did you see this post Phil? If you'd had followed those instructions this topic would have been stopped on page 1 instead of page 4...soon to be 5.

From that point on we have a few back and forth posts in which you have errors because of the reasons I stated above. Shorty after this on page 3 we have smoky again giving advice, only this time she's telling you to run the upgrade.php file. This is NOT NECESSARY! If you are running the version already, you do not need to run the upgrade file. The only thing it does is update the database if it isn't already. And since you are running the same version, you do not need to upgrade the DB .

Finally, a good opinion on Filezilla by Ianedres. And it seems your upload didn't go well or you uploaded them to the wrong place. My advice for this, would be for you to keep a copy of the files on your site in a folder where you never touch them. Then if you screw something up and need to replace the files or just a single file, you don't have to upload them again. You can just click and drag them from one folder to another.

My point for this post, was to get everyone to actually post support. Don't just throw an idea out and run with it. A lot of Phils heart ache here could have been avoided. If you don't have the time to post complete support, please don't help until you do have make it complete.
