Haha, I tried to upgrade my backup site from 9.8.3 to 1.0.5 and no such luck.

I did a backup up, then switched the forum to the default theme, then I received test failed on these files:

- /index.php
- /default.index.template.php
- /Subs.php
- /Sources/Profile.php

I reverted these files to their original stated, then tried to do the uninstall of 9.8.3.  I then completed the uninstall, then proceeded to do the upgrade to 1.0.5.  It took awhile, but finally, the uninstall went through.

Proceeded to do the upgrade, then after a minute or so got this message:

The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.
The script had an error or it did not produce any output. If there was an error, you should be able to see it in the error log.

Too bad I didn't turn on the error log, lol.  I said ok, that wasn't nice.  Thank God for backups.  I'll have to figure this one out tonight.  Maybe my host didn't like how long it took to execute the script?

Edit - I did have the error log turned on.  These are the last who related errors:

Database Error: Lost connection to MySQL server during query
File: /mysite/public_html/forum/Sources/Subs-Package.php
Line: 2008

and again here:

Database Error: Lost connection to MySQL server during query
File: /mysite/public_html/forum/Sources/Subs.php
Line: 2883

Guess I'll try a manual install later   :o

I did read it, just didn't explain it clearly.  I did uninstall 098 first.  When I tried to uninstall, then I got a failed on these files:

- /index.php
- /default.index.template.php
- /Subs.php
- /Sources/Profile.php

That's what I meant to say.

Then you have to clean the files manually ( or install TP 1.0.5 manually )

Really, its often much safer to go the "upgrade_SMF-with-current-version" route, as it it wipes out any leftover changes in SMF files.

It's the safer route, since it was my backup site, I wasn't too concerned about left over changes.  But, at least I know what to expect when I do my live site at some point.

Hi Bloc, can you elaborate on your route. Thanks.

IchBin

Using the large upgrade package in SMF completely replaces all your files in your forum. Basically giving you a fresh install of files which removes any traces of mods. You can then install mods again as if its a fresh install.
