I asked you which language your board was set to. Not the setting in your profile, the language setting in your admin panel. I also asked you to switch the language and then switch it back.

How did you install SMF? Did you do a manual install? Or did you use something like Fantastico?

I am running the default theme. I am using english. I do have mods running. No changes that I have made. Tiny portal is running. But there is no way to admin it. There are no features to tiny portal.

I looked at themes configuration to see if there was any options , but none. There is no menu in admin for tiny portal.

the default the is the core theme, its blue, not the theme thats on your site now..

Well I found my problem.

After re-steping through a manual installation I noticed several strings were missing from the subs.php file.

I also noticed some strings were in double. (twice) Note that only one installation was ever done and that was over a month ago.

I had no idea tiny portal was so fragile, like its built on a house of cards.

But more to my surprize I was amazed at the overzealousness and self agrandizing moderators who almost become militant with athority and demands.

Perhaps its just ego or youth.....often clarity is one of four enemies that visit us in our lifetime. Sooner or later he conquors all that do not know of his presence.

I am sure in someway they are convinced they are providing a service.  Personally I did not feel welcome asking the questions that I had asked.

One member or moderator suggested that I was not using the default theme. The fact is; I am using the default theme. "The default theme". Just because one changes the stylesheet for color does not mean it is not the default theme. Functionally it is the default theme. There is nothing changed about the theme but a Style.CSS.

So I suppose; perhaps if I would have replace my (Style.css) with the default (Blue) then you would have been able to help or asisst me? You might have had some human relation skills? Tiny Portal might not have malfunctioned? mmmmmm.....interesting I might consider that.

I guess this is just the world we are now living in...and perhaps I am just venting and resisting is its ugly change.

Lookinghawk, I was only trying to help..  it is up to you to decide if you mod the orginal file or not..  no mater, your site, you know best, and I am not a mod, just merly trying to help.

You did not listen to ICH when he simply asked a few questions, nor could you answer them. If you seek the help you are wanting, best to tell exactly what you have done, step by step.the more info you give, the better that people that have experience and understanding can help you better. hope this explains a few things. glad your site is up and going again.. good luck, and if not, post back.. ;)

Sometimes i can understand the critique we get, also i can understand the frustration when somethings not working as you like them to. In this case the install didn't seem to work through the package manager, and also seems that you tried to install TP several times to as you got duplicate code in one or several files.
However the reason you had missing files from the install were probably a host issue and safemod setup on the same. Hosts set the servers in safemod to avoid being hacked. Another note you need to have in mind is that TP is beta software, we haven't said it's working 100%, we haven't said it works through the package manager through ALL servers and host, it's still in development and will be for quite some time.

For the rude moderators... We consider this site and portal our home, you "knock" on our door and want in, you want to use what we have within this walls, we allowe you to be here, we welcome you, we ALSO have rules set up, posting guides for our visitors to read, we expect them to read them as they are in our home. Every home have diffrent rules, and as a visitor to any home around the world, you need to learn what goes and whatsnot behind the doors.
IF you had read our posting guides, docs, sticky topics as described in our site rules, you would have known what you needed to give US in information and probably you would have been given the proper help in the second post right after yours. In this matter, IchBin asked you several questions cause he HAD to in order to pinpoint your issue, he actually asked twice and you only answered 2 of them. These 2 were not enough for him or any of us to give you the exact reason to your error, thats why he asked you to GIVE the answers. He took his time he had to give, he wanted to help you cause he asked you a question he needed the answer to, he ignored the 500 other support threads with questions to give YOU help, and still you say he is rude and immature... immature when he took his time to help a stranger in his own home. Wonder what you would feel like if some one came to your home, asked for help, you needed to know WHAT help to give and then the visitor gave you a boot in the but telling you that you are a bad person... I  think you would be upset and throw that visitor out from your home, but thats just what i think, you would probably let that rude visitor take your time from your family and good friends to still try to help the visitor that just call you both this and that...

Part two, we as team stand by our replies, we are a team, but we do not stand for the other members replies, actually we dint like them to answer if they are not 100% sure they can help, Smokey have a will to help, but not always give the answers that will lead in the right direction to the issue. We cant stop our members from trying to help, we can only ask them to not respond if they are not absolutely sure about that answer is the solution or will lead to it.

So with this post, I want you to lay back, think of what i wrote, and the next time you seek help, try and be more patient, reply to our questions, we are only here to help and we have very little time on our hands to do this, so with that time we want to do our best. And also, remember that BETA software HAVE errors here and there, thats what beta is all about, you use it at your own risk, you have to live with errors until they are fixed, you cant demand anything from TP or it's staff, if you can live with this in mind, we can all be happy, but if you cant, i suggest you rethink your setup and stop using something you got for free and try and find something better.
Happy holidays  :D

Lookinghawk,

in situations like this its generally wise to let people help you instead of putting obstacles in their way. IchBin did ask those questions for a reason. It *could be* he has actually answered similar issues many time before, he do have a lot of time spent on these boards.

I wish you could decide what you like to do here though: write a review on TP and this site in general(in which "feedback" board is a good place), or stick with the "help me get my site working" idea. If the latter I suggest holding back on the metaphors and off-topic stuff, and work with your helper(s) rather against them.

With careful thought and consideration, I think you are correct. I humbley appoligize.

Using your "Home" analogy I understand this so.

Im my home I am humble, I am curtious to my guest, Often I have guest that do not speak my language, many of the elders speak old language. I offten at times have to ask several times for reclarification. At no time do I ever become impaitent, militant, abbrasive, rude, or arrogant with them; simply because I do not understand; reguardless of the very idea that "Its My House"

But I do understand the origin of this way of thinking.

I suppose there is always some justification in ones mind for such actions especially when supported and collaborated by a team effort.

I thank you kindly for your free software.

Please note this software was installed once without any errors or reintallations. TP has been working well for a little over a month, until 12-2-2007.

Then the menu disappeared.

Once again I thank you kindly;  to you and all of your team.

Thanks. :)

Did you change the forum to be using utf-8 by any chance? Often you will then need the utf8 versions of your language files - which is most likely the cause of the menus disappearing. If you also see a white space where the menus were, but not the text, then its a sure sign of wrong language files.

Lookinghawk

Honestly I do not have nor did i ever have UTF8 ever checked or installed. I only have english installed.

But I thank you kindly for your assitance.
