BT -  Are you using a Swedish server?

This is my first install of SMF with TP on a Swedish server.  I have done this many many times on american servers and have never had a problem.

I have had nothing but problems this time around.
First, my TP install throught he SMF admin went fine, except I could not see any TP admin.

I only have English as a language selection as well and I am using the default theme.

I noticed that after the install ALL of the TP files for the sources and themes directories had a size of zero, so I went through and manually uploaded all of them.

I also checked mySQL and all my tables were installed...I recieved no errors in the package manager.

But still I have no Tiny Portal Admin.  It's not a "missing text" issue, utf8 is not on my server..never was...and I have nothing showing anywhere.

I have been going through files one by one and can't find what I am missing or what the heck happened.

It doesn't matter if I use the default theme or not..it shows up no where...without errors...oddest thing.

I keep suspecting there is something funky about my Swedish server :D

Oh.. I am running the forum on https currently... but this is the fourth time I've scrapped the install of both of these and started over... I have tried twice with http and twice with https...the same issue no matter what I do it seems.

What do you mean by "swedish server"? My server is in Sweden, but all programs is in english.
I really don´t think that this has something to do with the "utf" problem.

MagiAwen

erm well I don't think it's a utf problem.  All I am saying is that that is the only difference between my installs.

I took the smf and tp packages that I installed on this new server in sweden and installed the exact same ones on my server in california and guess what? it all went fine.  I am wracking my brain to see what the dang differences are, that's all.

I agree it doesn't make much sense but I noticed that this swedish server I am on seems to be configured a bit differently than others I have used as far as paths go.

Whether or not your control panel or programs installed are in swedish or not really doesn't matter.

So far the only major difference that I can see is the mySQL version...but I don't know that that would make this issue happen either.

BT-loader

Ok! Well, i don´t think there are problems with my config either, but it´s a really wierd problem.

MagiAwen

have you checked your TP files that the package manager installed?  See if their size count is zero.

I agree it's an odd problem.

Right now I'm doing a manual install with this  http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=14195

Only thing is that that documentation is for smf 1.1.2 and I'm on 1.1.4

To tell you the truth...I am thinking that the higher security on this server is my issue...I think it does some path obfuscation or some such...I had a lot of problems with errors for a while and finally got it to install...just to find that nothing shows up lol.

Perfect.  That worked in my case.

For whatever reason I did not have to modify the theme files, they were already done.

But (again for whatever reason) when the package manager installed the thing...all the extracted files were present, however there was nothing in them...basically a bunch of named files...somewhat retarded.

I uploaded everything manually after the package install and then went through the Mod instructions in my previous post, except for in the theme files because when I looked at them I saw that the instructed mods were already in place.

Uploaded... works perfectly.  YAY! :)

Hope this info helps someone else as well.

**For the record... I have had to do every single addon this way this time as well.  And the only difference in what I am doing between these two servers is where the servers are located and with different companies and I believe on the Swedish server I am using mySQL 5 instead of 4.  Whether or not this all makes a difference, I'm not sure...but it really seems like it's the server and not the software...as if something is not quite configured right somewhere along the line...but that I don't have access to, if  you get me.

Actually forget about that. My laptop is going dead and its time to hit the sack. I was offering to look at your problem to see what was wrong. Whether that required admin/ftp or whatever. I'll try to check on you tomorrow.
Ok, i have sent pm with the link.  ;)
Hmm.. it seems that i can´t answer on pm:s or write new ones, all of the sudden. Why is that?

The Team, IchBin has made a permissions change to the PM system after some members started receiving some unwanted email.

You now need 20 posts to use the PM system.

I'll mention this in the Team boards, and see if one of the Admin can make an announcement.
