You may also want to disable hostname lookups and see if that helps any.

Admin > Features and Options > Layout and Options > Disable Hostname lookups: check

Thank you IchBinâ„¢!!

I have changed that setting...so we'll see what happens.

However, one last bit of information.

Tonight (830pm) I tried to access the homepage again...it would not come up. I could still access the forum by typing in the DIRECT FORUM URL and it would work, but if I clicked on HOME, it would just give me a blank page or pop up a dialog box asking me to save the index.php file.

Now the strange part. Last week, my ISP told me he thought it was my Norton Antivirus. So he had me restart the computer in SAFE MODE with NETWORKING. He then asked me to navigate to the homepage...not a problem, pulled it right up.

After the homepage would not come up tonight, I restarted in safe mode and again, not a problem getting to the site...so I don't know WHAT is going on.

I hope your suggestion works and maybe the last bit of info I provided will help.

Thanks for helping.

And people wonder why I ask if they're running antivirus or firewall software when having wierd problems like this... lol If I were you I would use something that is not so bloated. Like AVG or Avast.

So IchBinâ„¢!!...you have heard of "STRANGE" things happening...and can attribute those to AV sofware?

The guy did tell me that just UNINSTALLING Norton was not good enough...He suggested I call Norton and go through the process of REMOVING it totally from the computer.

I assume you agree with this strategy?

Which product do you recommend, AVAST or AVG and do you prefer the antivirus or internet security version?

Thanks for your insight...it has definitely been a learning experience.

Ken.

Norton's actually has a page featuring their removal tool.

There are lots of other pages about this issue as well:

FWIW... I stopped using their products years ago, to much trouble and conflicts with other programs.

Thanks Ken...exactly what I am looking for...

Ken.

Also this note for anyone who might want an 'all-in-one' style utility:

Back about 2 to 2.5 years ago Microsoft came out with "Windows Live OneCare" in a Beta release and I ran the beta for several months and then bought the retail version.

It comes with a firewall, anti-virus, spyware screening and removal plus lots of other stuff, like a very good backup utility.
I like this product better than any other that I've ever used and I have used many of them, both free and paid.

The cost is a little on the high end at $50.00 per year, but that is offset somewhat because you can put it on up to 3 PC's, currently I'm running two so the cost is $25.00 for each.

Thanks... Ken.
Of course I have no interest in or connection with MS except as a consumer.
