I just mean install a new SMF forum to test with...don't test TP on your current site until you are sure it will work for you.

It's good to install the test environment on your home webserver if you have one.ÂÃ,  That's what I did.ÂÃ,

If you're running Linux, you'll have everything you need.ÂÃ,  If you're running Windows like I am, you'll need to download some software.

To run your own webserver, you'll need the following.ÂÃ,  (all of this is free)

A webserver like Apache
http://www.apache.org/ÂÃ,  .....You could use IIS webserver which is packaged with Windows XP Pro (maybe home too, but I'm not sure)....but it's much harder to set up PHP with IIS.ÂÃ,  Apache is the easier way to go.

PhP 4 or newer
http://www.php.net/

MySQL 4 or newer.ÂÃ,  I would stick to 4, as 5 is new and may give you problems.ÂÃ,  I'm not sure because I haven't upgraded yet.ÂÃ,  I'm on 4.1
http://www.mysql.com/

Other things that will come in handy:

PhPMyadmin
http://www.phpmyadmin.net/home_page/

These things may seem complicated to install, but if you read the documentation on each website, you should be able to get it running.

Na -- IIs is easy to set up with PHP

I am really confused with this  :uglystupid2: and I am finding this difficlt to understand.  I think that I need to upgrade from SMF 1.05 to SMF 1.1 RC1 and then put in Helios multi.  I had someone in the clan who used to do this but he has since left.

I am trying to get into simplemachines forums (which I cant due to not receiving activation email) so that I can get the paid support.

Thanks to everyone for reply  ;D

Sorted now thank you all

Really? I've never tried to set it up with IIS myself, but a friend of mine did and said that it was a pain in the you know what to set up PHP with IIS.

Ray

Their are some really good how to's doc out their on the net that has step by step on how to set IIs up -- I did look for those docs on my computer but could not find what I did with them ::) And once you do it once it then becomes easy ;D

Cool...I'll have to try it sometime.

Xarcell

Setting up SMF is pretty easy. Upgrading is too, an so is adding TP.

I can help you, IM me at Xarcell.

BTW, black 22 theme would match you overall site theme better than the helios theme. I could even make some simple altercatiosn for you to even further match it.

Sorry Xarcell - was that meant for me?

At the mopment I'm like a kid in a sweet shop - there are soooo many things that make my mouth water lol.ÂÃ,  I have some ideas and one of them may be to ditch my main front page when the TP is fully operational and goes public.  As I'm in the same game as Bloodlust I would like some of the features he has such as the server link and Teamspeak (cool site Blood  ;) ) ÂÃ, Thanks for the offer though - appreciated ;D
