What exactly does RPG mod do anyway?

I like to make a TP module for it, but am a bit in the woods about what is required. :)

RPG Mod is a role playing (level-based) server-side plugin for Counter-Strike: Source.

There is one for IPB OFFICIAL SITE HERE, it is a sort of attack system, where you can level up by attacking other users...then you use money (kinda like for the shop) to buy healing potions, strength potions, and revive potions...

And there are Guilds that people can join, and be part of

It would more than likely work best if it was integrated into the Shop mod

It is a rather complex modification if you ask me, but it would be awesome...If you still want more info, or even some screenshots let me know ;)

I've been working on this thing as a mod for SMF 2 beta 4, don't think it'll be finished soon.

So essentailly its also a sort of shop system? real shop or just "points" type of shop? Attack system..how does it tie into the real game-playing? Are there some sort of interface for that?

More info and screenshots, yes please. :) I am trying to understand this fully before I make any plans.

Lord Anubis

Its a point based forum game, it doesn't directly tie into any real world gaming...

From the tutorial:

The battlemod is a mod where people can attack eachother with different types of weapons.
As soon as your EXP gets to 100% you will level up and your HP and Strength both will increased with a number between 1-10.
It is possible for a level 2 member to have the same stats as a level 3 member. You can attack everyone that is alive on the forum unless they have decided to quit the battle system.

You can attack 4 times + 1 more per every 10 levels. Both the number of attacks and the increase per level gain can be set by the admins in the ACP battle settings.
Your waiting time is 3 hours after your attack. This will be reduced with 10 minutes every 10 levels. This waiting and reduction time can be changed in the ACP battle settings

Example: A level 47 can attack 4 + 4: 8 times and has to wait 3hours - (10minutes x 4): 2 hours and 20 minutes before he can attack again.

Now for the specific parts of this mod:

Attacking

You can attack an user by pressing the Attack Link in their profile.
As soon as you attack you will be able to pick a weapon(different strength usage) and attack him with it. Your attack can do 3 things:

1: Miss your opponent - If you miss, your attack you will do 0 damage and gain little EXP.
He will retaliate with a random attack that could harm or kill you.
2: Reduce your opponents HP - Depending on the weapon you have used you take away an X amount of your opponents HP.
However since your opponent is not dead yet he can retaliate with a random attack that could harm or kill you.
3: Kill your opponent - If you kill your opponent you will gain at least 1 frag. Depending on your opponent you can steal frags from him.
I think this is done by the previous attacks your opponent has done(how many kills on a row he has made)*. I am not sure about this though.

*example: if I kill 3 people and Punker kills me then he will gain 1 Frag + steal my 3 frags(the 3 in a row I made)

The higher in level you get the more weapons you can use.

Items

HP/Strength potion: Restores part of your HP or Strength.
There are several levels of potions that restore different amounts of HP or Strength. Does not work when you are dead.
Life potion: Restores part of your HP and Strength.
There are several levels of potions that restore different amounts of HP and Strength. Does not work when you are dead.
Phoenix Down: Revives an user when he is dead with X HP/X Strength(depends on what phoenix down u use).
Can ONLY be used on ANOTHER MEMBER through the sidebar(or in his profile) when you are ALIVE. It wont work in any other combination.

Weapons

There are different types of weapons. When your Strength goes up to an X amount you can see more weapons that you can use.

I will explain 1 type of weapon(the same goes for all other weapons):

The Holy Hand Grenade has a minimum Strength usage of 15. As soon as you have 15 Strength you are able to see and use this weapon.
The Maximum Strength Used shows how much strength this weapon can use.
If you are a higher level player and your strength stats are 14/75 you will NOT see this item.
You have to regain your strength with a potion in order to see the more powerful weapons.

Gil

Gil is the same as our Gold. You can gain Gil in several different ways:

1. For each post/thread you make or you can get an X amount of gil.
2. Through the Guilds(as set by the GM).
3. If you kill your opponent, you will gain a random amount of gil from you opponent.
4. If you win the battle but do not kill your opponent, then you can steal an x amount of gil from the loser.

With this Gil you can purchase potions to restore yourself. If you have saved up enough Gil you can buy a Guildhouse (will be explained later).

Atkshop

In the Atkshop you can buy your potions and see your inventory.
You can also donate Gil to another member. If you want to transfer an item you can also do it in the Atkshop.
Furthermore you can see the Richest Users and your own stats.

Guild

As soon as you gain enough Gil you can purchase a Guildhouse.
In the Guild you see several links. If you have not joined a Guild yet you have limited options.
You can see all the guilds out there and try to join them. Once you have joined them you can go in the Guildhouse or Resign from your Guild.

In the GuildHouse you can see several links. I will not explain these links, because there explained already in the subtext.
As a GM you can let members join, kick existing members, change the name of the guild, assign lieutenants and manage the gil that your Guild has.
You can set an X amount of gil that members can withdraw each 24 hours.

Here are some screens of some of the areas of the game:

SCREENSHOT: THE SHOP

SCREENSHOT:  THE TARGETS (other members that are playing the game, there is an optout option in the forum profile)

SCREENSHOT: WEAPONS LIST, you dont purchase weapons instead the more experience you gain the more weapons that are unlocked

SCREENSHOT: FORUM PROFILE BATTLE MOD SECTION (shows the last 15 attacks, either against you or your attacks

I will add more screenshots later, hope this helps ya to get an idea ;)

bloc

Yes, it does. :) It seems very interesting , I like to work on it.

The weapons and potions etc..thats settable in admin right? its something you can add/remove  - not being a absolute range of preset values?

Lord Anubis

Yes, kinda like shop items...I think you got the idea :)

I think if we used this kinda basis, and not copied theirs exactly, it would make an awesome modification

bloc

One thing puzzling me..the challenges/attacks, how does they work exactly? How do you "hit" or "miss" something?

Lord Anubis

yep exactly, its a hit or a miss, I think it is done as a random...and the strength used for the attack is determined by the weapon...So the weapon could attack with a strength factor between lets say 700-799...

And to attack a user you either use the Targets list shown in the previous screenshots or in their post profile it will show this (I circled it in red)

Screenshot: Post Profile

Then it would go to a screen like this:

Screenshot: Choose your weapon

and finally the last screen

When you start talking about RPG heavy like this, then I gotta get involved. I'm currently designing my own RPG game, aside from the mud-forum I was designing( I showed it to ya before Bloc ).

I could add alot of input on this, especially how it could be incorporated into a working system via forum.

Like one person said, it may be best to create "items" for the existing shop mod that are weapons, unless you intend to create your own shop mod similar to Daniels.

I actually hired someone to do this project, but the person took my money and ran. It's been a year now and I haven't heard anything back from the person.

Back to creating RPG items for Daniel's shop mod. The best way (simplest way) we could come up with was to create weapons & armor. A person could have armor from the shop which gave them a health number, and weapons that gave them a attack/damage number. So it would be weapon vs armor. Once health reached zero, you were defeated. It is on a random hit/miss system. If a person wasn't wearing armor, they could not be attacked.

The "attack" link would only show on a person if they were present on that same board.

The part we didn't think through was the fact that people may carry various items from the shop. Or a person may have several weapons. The person would have to "wear" the item, meaning they would use it. The developer I hired said there wasn't a reasonable way to do this, that a person could only have one weapon and one armor in their inventory. This is a little upsetting, as it kinda takes away from the fun a bit if you wanted to buy someone armor/weapons to give them, or just for the sake of collecting.

I'm sure it can be done though by simply flagging/sticky-ing a armor and weapon from inventory, which means this is the item you want to use.

There are alot of ways to do this. This was the simplest for us. However it still doesn't create leveling up system for players, but I don't think there should be one. I think just using post count with post groups is sufficient, as each successful attack would count toward your post count. If you create a system where user's can level up and get more abilities based on level, you'll end up with user's with multiple accounts and cheating....
