Can I ask a dumb newbie question?

This will be my first TP upgrade, and I am using my own custom theme.

Will using the manual modification method at http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?board=131.0 accomplish the upgrade?  That's a substitute for using the package manager, right?

Thanks for your indulgence for this rather elementary question.  I searched but couldn't really find anything.

Yes, thats the manual install package
But even if you use that, it's very important you have your forum set to SMF default theme before you install the new TP.
Also remember to do a complete backup of your forum files and your DB before you upgrade.
If you look in the installation board, you see some sticky posts there, one of them have the files you need to copy and paste the code in if you use the manual install, those files have the code in them already, so just download the correct package there for the version of SMF you have.
