stats box fault

i have been using tp0.9.5 with smf forum  happily for a while now but all of a sudden i am finding the section 'stats' is faulty ( i am hoping this is a tp related question not smf, if it isnt please shout at me and i will go away 
Members log in and it shows there but when they leave the site, it still shows they are on the site.
I can correct it manually by going to maintenance and selecting forum maintenance and selecting 'empty out unimportant logs' but it just happens repeatedly. Any ideas

are you referring to them still being shown as logged in indefinately? or just for 10-15 mins after they have left?

well usually they still show as logged in even after they leave without logging out for about 5 to 10 mins on my site and then they vanish

but if they logout - they should vanish instantly
