Installation Guide

Safe Mode  must be OFF

Important Note for existing SMF installations with data and/or modifications.

Please back up your data and modifications before installation of Tiny Portal. Before starting on the installation of Tiny Portal, make sure you will be able to fully recover if something goes wrong by reinstalling your SMF, your data and mods.

Tiny Portal requires a properly functioning installation of SMF to install and work properly.

If not already installed, install SMF according to SMF documentation.

After installation you should be automatically logged in as Admin.

Go into the Admin Panel > Forum Errors Log and confirm that you have no errors.
If you have errors, find out what’s causing them and correct them before proceeding with your Tiny Portal installation.
Confirm that SMF is working properly before proceeding the installation of Tiny Portal.


Directory permissions should be in the default settings required by SMF. Confirm this using the Package Manager.

Go to SMF>Admin>Main>Packages>Package Manager>Options>Cleanup Permissions and select "Only the standard files are writable" and click on "Change File Permissions"


Install Tiny Portal in Package Manager. You should already have the Tiny Portal install zip on your local machine.

Click on Download Packages and use "Upload a Package" to upload the Tiny Portal zip file on your local machine. Browse to the Tiny Portal file and click on "Upload".

Your screen should look like this:

Package uploaded successfully
Package has been downloaded successfully

TinyPortal [ Apply Mod ] [ List Files ]

Select  [ Apply Mod ]

Your screen should look exactly like the following. If it does not, stop, you have a problem and Tiny Portal will not install successfully. You can try to re upload the file but you probably have a problem with your server configuration.

Select the "restart your forum" link. Check the Forum Error Log to make sure you don't have any problems. Make some test posts, forum settings changes, etc. then check the error log again. If your forum is error free you can begin using Tiny Portal and install Tiny Portal themes.

I understand how it can happen. Even as I am developing my site, I have to once in a while log in as a moderator and a member and then log out to see what guests will see. It's really easy to not realize what the different permissions actually mean.

I don't quite understand why there are no instructions updated for 0.86 and why these instuctions are not included in the read me. (0.86 has been available since January 1)?

I'm certain including updated instructions would take much burden off this support forum.

I have uploaded all TP files to the SMF installation on the server, except for the fiive SMF 1.1RC2 files I have to edit. I'm having troubles editing /Themes/default/index.template.php as explained in another support post.

I was not aware of installing TP through the SMF package manager.

Is there a "manual "install" process?

Please at least make the install instructions a sticky please.

I don't know why but some times the most simplest and less time consuming part of a project is saved for last. Kind of like everyone wants to work on hot rodding the engine and suspension but no one wants to put air in the tires. I don't understand.

If you read through the posts, you had seen that TP V086 is a beta, that means there is no guide to set sticky, it's a trial version for the development until it is final.
The next release is quite near now, but that to is a beta version, but very close to the final, so Bloc is making a FAQ with all things there is to know about TP, also install guide with more.

You are just whining away about the whole thing, when you don't even read through whats this is all about.
You are a beta tester, we need YOU to test out diffrent things, not the other way around there.
If you encounter trouble, ask NICE and we will sort it together, if you demand the same things as from a payed script.
If you continue this way, and still see that you have the rights to treat us and the forum here this way, we will just stop helping you out, and you can seek what you want else where.
I'm sorry to say this, but it is like that here. Every one in here are doing this for free, in their own free time and for the love of it, if thats not enough for you, but to 6000 other happy users here, i think you might just find another way to get what you want.
Compare full versions with betas that are in a development stage isn't a very good thing IMHO
We have also given you directions and help through your questions, showed you the way, told you what to do, and still you treat us bad and this forum the same way, cause you think it should be like what you want it to be.
I'm sorry, but this isn't the way to go in this forum.
