Is there anyway to make the frontpage show articles and frontpage blocks?

I like the way the frontpage works, and recently decided to try using articles, but found out that I can only have articles, or frontpage blocks, or forum.

What  Iwould like to see is the choice articles and frontpage blocks, with the articles on top and blocks underneath.

I've wondered about this, myself, and would like to be able to use all the options on the front page at the same time; frontpage blocks with articles and forum posts, etc.

I must not be getting this at all.

I've got my Frontpage BLock to display HTML correctly via using java/html setting. I'd like to investigate using Articles to accomplish the same because I want to really have a FULL frontpage whiich would include having links to other pages that would display within the TP structure. I suppose I can just use the Frontpage Block to do the same thing if I can figure out how to navigate among a number of html pages, all displayed within the block. Of course I could make this one big flash interface in a single Frontpage block, but I know you guys have figured this out, a la the TP frontpage.

Perhaps a little tutorial would help. if anyone has time.

TIA,

Deacon

I'm trying to do something similar...

www.DGTrials.com -- I'm trying to emulate my site and start to use more CMS.  It's getting too hard to add things to the site regularly, ESPECIALLY calendar-type stuff.  The testbed is at http://www.dgtrials.com/tinyportal/forum

I don't really understand how the whole articles thing works.  I tried some stuff and managed to create a link to an article, but it had no formatting or anything, it was quite weird.

I obviously can mimic the navbar "ok", but I don't know what to do about any of the buttons.  Most of my stuff could be considered HTML blocks (about, contact, etc).  The news page is a list of articles, to a T.  But the homepage has some articles stuff, and some calendar stuff.  I don't mind having the calendar in a side block... I dunno... it just seems like there really isn't enough documentation on TinyPortal.

In the next version there will be a "sitemap" blocktype. This will simply show any modules you have "on", and you can tick off any item in the menu manager to be included into this.

About the frontpage...currently you have a few choices:

1. show only articles. This will show any article you have selected to be "shown on frontpage". If you tick off "use intro" , only the introtext will be shown. There are pages according to how many you want one each page.

2. Show only forum-posts. This will show recent posts from a selected board, no less no more.

3. Show both forum and articles. this is the default one, here those 2 above is mixed on when they were created.

4. go direclty to forum. Here we skip the whole frontpage altogether.

5. Show frontblocks. Using the "frontblocks" defined in "edit blocks"

So you see the option of mixing articles and frontblocks are not available. That will change with v0.9, where a block can actually contain a article or a category, giving you much freedom in palcing things. Ina ddition there will be possible to show them in columns, like

xxxxxx
yy | zz
vv | nn

or

xxxx | yy
xxxx | zz
xxxx | nn

Bloc -- thank you for your insight.  You've confirmed what I feared :)

However, I'm glad to see that .9 will have many of the features that we all are aching for.

I may be re-abandoning my quest for CMS... it just seems too hard to accomplish what I want because it will require a lot of mods that I don't have the time or the skill for.  Unfortunately, it means that I also won't get any of it done.. ha!  Who thought that it would be so hard to find a forum that integrates nicely with a website that allows you to have multiple photos for users and custom fields and then have an advanced calendar module which supports participants from the forum with google maps and other information...

it looks like SMF/Tiny will get to where I need... but I can't wait! lol

For my part, about the only functionality I need right now is the ability to "run/navigate" a website from within the frontpage block. IOW, all subsequent pages should show within the block and not _blank. Also, in other forums structures (XOOPS, for example) I am able to do this by embedding an iframe type command within a couple of includes so that these separate pages pick up the style sheets for the template.

Is this really not available right now? Maybe I just haven't understood how to do this (which is very likely the case). Even further, I'd like to use the Content menu to be able to insert a given html page into a frontpage block and then have it provide it's own navigation from there. I could then provide overall content management for the frontpage block from the Content menu and micro-manage the way each "content" navigates within the frontpage.

Thanks, Bloc, for all you do with Tiny Portal...it's really VERY kewl work!!

Having a iframe in a block is quite possible, yes. Use either a html/js block or a php one. In the php you of course need to "echo" the tags.
