OK,

If you have any window at a fixed px width. it will not re size with all the browser window variants.

But to make it simple if you have  a window set for 80% it will appear at 80 percent of the browser window.
I am working hard on responsive web pages and I know that  others  are and/or have created some of these, and they work well, But when it comes to side panels ( of the portal, they may or may not work in the smaller hand held devices like phones ), unless you close the panel and view only the main content. I have not tried this but maybe, possibly place the side stuff at the bottom of the forum ( using a panel and preferably responsive coding)!

I maybe wrong, but I think what some are working toward is a Theme system/s that will allow side panel like stuff, but the templates or pages will be of a responsive nature!

Now don't everyone freak and think that, we can no longer use the portal, This is not the case it, will probably be how to use it and when and what pages, to accommodate the mobile devices, or as been discussed here a detection that will close the panel for phones and such.

I always keep in my mind that the phone is a toy compared to the PC or Laptop, and there is only so much you can do productive wise, so if you community has lots of useful, stuff they will visit or re visit you with a larger unit.
Note, I know the phones are very useful and necessary today!

My Son is on his phone all the time he is off work, but if he needs to do some work on the resume or MS word or other stuff it the PC or laptop is the tool/s to use.

Most Tablets I've tried the side panels work well if you use percentage rather the Pixel settings.

Hope this helps! this my experience with these things!

regards,
maxx
