Hi, total Newb here using:
Tiny portal 1.101 with SMF version 1.1.11

I am having a challenge hiding the shoutbox for guest visitors. I can get it to where it shows and they can't post but not totally hide it from them.

I have the box for guests unchecked for membergroups that will be able to see this block. I'm assuming that should not allow visitors to see the box unless registered and logged in? Is there some PhP that I need to be looking at to make this work correctly?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I think I just found the answer?!?!?!? Had to uncheck ungrouped members and it disappeared from guests. Does this sound correct?

Thanks again.

TPShout is a TP module added to TP.

1. It can be On or Off from TPAdmin -> Modules: Modules

2. If set On, we may configure it's Settings in TPAdmin -> TP Modules: TPShout -> Settings
There, beyond other options, you may choose to allow or not shouts (posting there) from guests.

3. To be visible, TPShout must be set to a special block that must be created by the admin. He/she will decide where and in what sections and conditions will be displayed. The admin, in block edit, as well will decide who can see this block. So, if you want guests to be able to see it you must check the guests. Ungrouped members are registered and logged in members that have not any primary group, so you must have them checked, unless you want to restrict use to some groups only (in this case allowing for guests is controversial).

4. An admin may want some help to keep the Shoutbox clear, in this case he may give permissions to a group of assistants to manage Shoutbox. This is done in
TPAdmin -> Settings & Frontpage: Permissions -> "Manage Shoutbox"

No, that would not be correct.  In fact, you may have found a bug in this version of TinyPortal.  If Guests is unchecked, the block should indeed not be visible to Guests.  As Agridoc stated, "Ungrouped members are registered and logged in members that have not any primary group" so if you uncheck that as well, the Shoutbox will probably not be visible to a majority of your members, unless all of your members are in a Primary Group.

I will go ahead and put this in the BugTracker and then return here to post a link to the Bug Report.

Bug Report is here --> http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?issue=37.0
