Hello,

I would like to upgrade totally my website (actually TP 0.983 and SMF 1.1.11) to SMF 2.0 and of course TP1.0 b5.
What I have to upgrade first? TP or SMF? No difference?
Can I keep everything? (articles, blocks, shoutbox messages...)

I read it's necessary to uninstall TP first, is it right?
But I don't have the link 'uninstall' in Package Manager, just delete, is it ok?
This post in announce seems too old :-\ http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=27943.0

Thank you in advance!

Olorin,

Before starting, the first thing you want to do is make a backup of your database and of your entire Forum.  I prefer to backup using phpMyAdmin.  Your host can help you with this.  For backing up the Forum, create a temp Folder on your computer and use your FTP client to get to the Forum install, for instance "/public_html/smf".  Once you are there, download the entire contents of the folder to the temp folder that you created on your Hard Drive.  This backed up DB and the temp folder on your computer can then be used to revert your Forum in case you make any drastic mistakes.

It would be best to totally remove all traces of TP 0.98 from your Forum.  Since you can't use the Package Manager to uninstall it, you should first go throught the manual uninstall.  That topic is located here --> http://www.tinyportal.net/help/index.php?topic=147

However, there are a few precautions in that topic that you should be aware of ...

Near the bottom of that topic, you will see this ...
Quote
Open your Board directory and remove the following folders

FCKEditor
tp-downloads
tp-images
wysiwyg

If you have used the TP Download Manager and you have files in the tp-downloads folder, you should not delete this one if you want them to be available when you upgrade.  Also, at the very bottom of that topic, where it says "Now we need to remove the Database tables for TP.", you should skip everything from there down.

Once you have done this, TP 0.98 will be removed from your Forum but all of your Articles, Blocks, Shoutbox messages, etc., will be preserved in the database.

In addition, you should be aware of this.  None of the themes that worked for you on SMF 1.x will work in SMF 2.0.  For this reason, some people prefer to go ahead and delete all of the custom themes in your /public_html/smf/Themes folder to keep from being confused.  If they have been updated for SMF 2.0, you will be able to reinstall them later.  If you choose to do this, you should not delete the following themes as they will be reinstalled anyway --> default, classic, and babylon.

The next step is to do the upgrade for SMF.  Switch your Forum to the default SMF theme and clear out your Forum error log so that nothing is in it.  You should then navigate to this page --> http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?board=3.0;sort=subject

This will give you all the information you need to follow step by step in order to do the upgrade.  When you get to the page called "Obtaining SMF", you will want to download the SMF 2.0RC3 "Large Upgrade" package.  Create another temp folder on your computer to Unzip the SMF package into.

Once you have finished the upgrade, and before installing TinyPortal 1.0 beta 5-1 (or the latest one available), or any custom themes, your Forum should now being using SMF 2.0 RC3 and new Curve theme (which is now the default SMF theme.)  At this point, you should go through and test the Forum function and make sure that everything works as expected and there are no major errors in your error log.

OK, if everything is "So Far, So Good" then you are ready to download and install the latest TinyPortal via the Package Manager.  From that point on, if you have any questions on TP, you should post in the Support Board here on TP.net.

Hi and thank you very much for your explanation!
The manual TP uninstall seems to be laborious, I read it was possible to install the last 0.9 version for getting the uninstall link, is it true?
The problem is 0.9 version is not available in download section, where can I find it?

If you are upgrading SMF from 1.1.x to 2.0 RC3, there is no need to uninstall if you have made a backup. Uploading the SMF2.0 RC3 files will over write all mods that you have installed. After you have successfully run the smf upgrade, then you'll just need to install TP normally through the package manager.

Ok, good to know! I will do that today and let you know...
