Hi!

I had a idea of something that's annoying me atm, on my forum, i have no blocks shown at all, basicly because I dont find them needed there, but when my website is growing with more and more functions, (which I do via the CustomAction mod) I have to edit the viewing settings to include the new page (this is also the case with a new block).

Now my idea was to have a function to NOT show a block on certain pages, which would be awesome and not too hard to make I think :)

No, its not hard as such..but its confusing. The current setup works very straightforward: tick off any page you want it on. If you add a totally opposite option, IMO its harder to keep tabs on where actually blocks appear.

I am trying out some new ways to view where blocks appear though, for example on page by page basis, where you could tick off which blocks should appear on that page - rather than go into each of the blocks themselves.

Hi xterreur,

Welcome to TinyPortal.

We have had discussions wrt a feature like this on the Team Board a while back, but to change that now would be entirely counter intuitive to the way TinyPortal has always worked and, as Bloc says, it would confuse people.  It just seems easier to be able to choose "where to show a block" rather than "where not to show a block".  Being able to "choose where not to show a block" must assume that when you create a block it will automatically be shown everywhere except where you choose not to show it.  To me, as a Support person, I would think that the number of support questions about how such a feature works, should it be added, would drastically increase, thus causing nightmares for those of us who provide support.

As it stands now, when you create a block, you can choose where to show it so, if you create a new block and you only want it to be shown on a custom action page, you simply need to add that custom action for that block, without checking "Display on all pages and sections".

For instance, let's say that you have a new block you have created which shows the most recent pictures from a custom action, like the Gallery.  Assuming that a custom action called "gallery" exists (action=gallery), and you want to show that new block on both the Front Page and the Gallery page, you would deselect "Display on all pages and sections" for that block, select "Frontpage", and add the custom action for "gallery" at the bottom (see attached image).  This seems pretty straightforward to me.

You can also hide particular panels when in certain sections ...
Hide panels when in admin section?    Yes  No
Hide panels when in these sections:
Yes  No - Profile screen
Yes  No - Personal Messages screen
Yes  No - Memberlist screen
Yes  No - Search screen
Yes  No - Calendar screen

In addition, also in the panel settings, for each panel type, you can choose to not show a particular panel in the Forum.  In other words, for the Top Panel you can choose to ...
Hide top panel when in forum?  Yes  No

So, bottom line, No, I would not like to see a feature like this added.  It would not only confuse people but would complicate support for it.

I see, was worth a try though :)

edit:
Oh, I did not know about the panels, this solves my problem completely! Thanks!

Thanks for the quick response.

ZarPrime

Yeah, the panel settings are indeed powerful.  I will mark this one solved. O0
