How would I be able to update Tinyportal to the newest version and where do I check to see the version i have?

I bet this is obvious but I won't lose everything i currently have with Tinyportal right? Will i have to as well update SMF to a newer version?

How can i add a anti bot method on my Shoutbox for Guests.
Anything would be good. I can manually add codes as well.

Ken.

Hello Andrei2000PC, welcome to TinyPortal.

You can determine what version of TP you have installed by looking at the copyrights notices at the bottom of your forum pages, you'll also see a notice for the SMF version you are running.

If you'll do that and then post up the info called for in the posting guidelines it will be lots easier to answer your questions... Thanks.

Hello Andrei2000PC,

Welcome to TinyPortal.

Unless you have made any changes that would keep the TP version for some reason, it should say what version you are using at the bottom of your site, sort of like this ...
TinyPortal v1.0 beta 4 Ã,© Bloc

No, you won't lose anything by upgrading because all of your blocks, articles, etc. are in the database.  However, just to be sure there are no problems, make sure that you switch your Forum to the SMF default theme and then make a backup of your current database so that you'll have it in the event something goes wrong.  I don't know what version of SMF you are using right now but, from the subject of this topic, I can guess that you are using SMF 1.1.7.  If this is the case, you should upgrade your SMF to the latest SMF version for the 1.1.x line, which is 1.1.11.  The same precautions apply to upgrading your SMF.  You simply uninstall your old version of TP and install the new one using the Package Manager.  If you have problems with that, let us know and we can assist you with links to docs about what to do.

As far as anti-bot measures for the shoutbox, I've never heard of bots posting in a shoutbox.  In most cases, it's Human guests posting or new members who joined up just to post spam.  Most people just disable the use of the shoutbox (posting in it) for guests and this keeps them from posting spam there.

In the future, if you would Please Read and Follow the Posting Guidelines, it will much easier for us to answer your questions and help you out.  There is a template in that topic which you can use to post information about your site so that we can get as much information about your site as you can give us.

Yes, i am getting bot replies in my Shoutbox. I have over 14,000 replies
of junk and advertisement. I can't find the settings to disable it to guests.
I am Running SMF 1.1.7 and TinyPortal v0.9.8

What package would you recommend for setting up
as well a anti-bot for guest and/or registered users.
Making it a restriction until they have about 5 posts made.
