ShoutBox date/time turnoff question

Is there a way to turn off the date/time that shows up in the shout box when someone makes a shout?

I realized that if I can turn off the date/time when a person makes a shout (which i don't really care about and in fact with the little usage my site gets only points out that shouts are few and far between  ) that I can actually display more shouts within the box.

I love the entire TP project, it has really made my site great - thanks!

Welcome to TinyPortal.

This is not just something you can do from the TinyPortal Admin area.  You would have to change the actual code.  This topic may tell you how to do that --> http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=29682.msg237934#msg237934

However, be aware that this topic had to do with the TP 1.0 beta 4 Shoutbox and the code may be different than it was for beta 3, which is in use on your site.

Before making any changes, be sure to make a backup of the file so that you can revert to it in the event it doesn't work.

hmm, no progress as i can't find where the code might be.  running SMF 1.1.11.  do you know in very simple terms where i might start looking.

GreenBean, there is no option built in to TP/SMF that will allow you to do this. You'll have to modify the code in the TPShout.php file. Although, the TPShout.php file is now located in the tp-files/tp-modules/TPShout/Sources/ directory. That post that you were linked to should do the trick.

if i can get to the right location then I'll go back to the other thread, just didn't want to junk it up with this noob stuff searching for the php file , yes, i'm new at this, yet old at the same time  .

I've tried these paths:

Admin>TinyPortal>TPShout> and options of Settings or ShoutBox
or:
Admin>TinyPortal>Modules and Tags>TP Simple Shoutbox(Admin)> brings me back to the above location.

those are my options within the TinyPortal window... is my theme causing a problem here do you think?


I can see, i think, the correct file listed this way:
Admin>Main>Packages>TinyPortal(list Files)>329. tp-files/tp-modules/TPShout/Sources/TPShout.php (41606 bytes)

but clicking the link it still doesn't let me edit.  Thanks for the help.

It would seem your new. Let me explain in more detail. What you are doing is looking for an option in the TP/SMF software. What I'm telling you, is that you actually have to open the file that is located on your server at the location I mentioned above. That means, you either have to log into your control panel, or use an FTP client to grab the file, edit it, then upload the changed file. If you need further instructions, feel free to ask. We don't mind helping people new to this stuff learn how to do things.
