"Upcoming Events" Block?

I'm trying to figure out how to make the calendar more visible on SMF, and I was thinking that maybe there was a way to have "upcoming events" display with correct date and general information in a block on the portal? Is this doable? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I swear there was something in the block code snippets board for this. Did you search there for this type of thing?

There is, the mini calendar will do this, i had it setup for awhile b4 upgrading to 2.0 havnt updated the code yet. But I just coded out the upcoming Bdays and Holidays and did just the "Events"
