After 4 days and countless hours trying every function and position there is, I give up.

I am willing to hire someone to set up a front page for me.  I have kind of a mock up of how I want it done.  Please pm me if you are interested.

Thank you!

twister,

What is it that you are having trouble figuring out?  Can you be a little more specific?

I am trying set up the front page so it looks like the picture.

The banner which says Talk Faux I want on top running the width of the forum, which I have sized accordingly.

Recent Topics and Latest Tutorials side by side right below banner.

Then the featured articles below that.

I currently have smf gallery pro showing on the forum in the Upper Panel which will be the only thing that stays on the forum itself.

Hmmm...just went to quote your previous post, and have just discovered there is an image there, however, it's not showing for me???

Now that I've seen the image, it should be doable.
The only part that could be a problem is the Recent Topics/Latest Tutorials, which would need to be done using a custom block, set to display as an upper panel block on the front page. Everything else should be pretty straightforward.

would this front page be part of tinyportal, or a separate page?  because the banner would be the one from which ever theme you are using at the time.

ZarPrime

twister,

I thought maybe mc was asking what theme, rather than what image? :o

Anyway, I don't see anything particularly difficult in what you are trying to do.

1.  For the banner, you want to make sure you choose a theme that will let you use a banner that will fill the entire width of the top of the screen.  That means that your banner would need to have a left image, a right image, and a center image that is black but will expand and contract based on the width of the browser screen.  Not too difficult there.

2.  For the articles, there can only be one featured article, and other articles below it.  Again, not too difficult.

3.  Finally, the settings to show an upper block with recent topics on the left and tutorials on the right is not too difficult.  If the tutorials are all TP articles in a single category, you could simply setup the upper panel to "Display the blocks in 2 columns" and force the width of each block to 50% and the height of each block to whatever you want it to be.  For instance ...
Force this width on each block(use 00px or 00%): 50%
Force this heigth on each block(use 00px or 00%): 200px

Those 2 blocks would be set to show only on the FrontPage.  You could see what this would look like on my test forum at this address ...

If I am missing something that makes this more difficult than it should be, please enlighten me.

Sorry about that, it would help to know what theme wouldn't it.

I am using DS4W which is a www.dzinerstudio.com and almost exactly the same as what they are using on their site.  If fact I got the idea of my front page layout from theirs.

I do not necessarily have to have the Recent Topics/Latest Tutorials set up the same, I just liked the look of it.   Based on what has been suggested here I can try and see if I can get it to work correctly.

ZarPrime

twister,

Yeah, a little experimentation is what it's all about and it's what makes every site using TP unique. :D Also, since you are using a DzinerStudios theme, they might be very helpful to you in making your banner look right in one of their themes.  Play with it, and if you need our help, we will be here.
