Is it ok to add meta tags ie. keywords, description in the html code in the article page system when creating a page?

...or is it a waste of time since SMF already provides meta tags for you to edit?

You shouldn't declare any more meta tags. To be XHTML valid, you can only have the meta tags in the head of your document. If you are creating an article I would suggest you don't even use anything outside of the <body> tags if you can help it.

Thanx for your reply.  It seems that Google doesnt index some of my article pages.

if I am correct in thinking each theme in the index.template.php and has its own meta tags, so if your article has is own theme you could edit  that said theme to reflect that article page

<meta name="keywords" content="PHP, MySQL, bulletin, board, free, open, source, smf, simple, machines, forum" />
