Articles auto-approved and assigned to category

I know there is no option to do this already, I was wondering if it would be easy to code...

I have 28 football teams in my league. I have a category setup for each team. Anytime they are in the news or have some news to report, they submit Articles for their teams. I would like to allow certain users Auto-Approval for their Category only.

Using 1.1.8 and 1.0 beta 3.

There is a permission called "submissions are always approved" for membergroups. i suggest setting that permission to the membergroups that are tied to these teams - or create new ones as secondary membergroups and apply to the members.

The articles should be approved automatic then.

I know I can setup a membergroup to autoapprove articles and stick the trusted people in that group. That doesn't address the issue I am working to resolve.  To be more in detail:

Category: Broncos
Category: Titans
Category: Steelers

Anyone can submit an article for any team and anyone can view any of the articles.

I have certain people that write a lot of articles always about a specific team and I dont feel the need to screen them and I need for them to automatically be approved and stuck in a pre-defined Category.

If Joe always writes for the Broncos, how do I set it up so that Joe is always auto-approved and has his articles automatically stuck in the Broncos Category?

As Bloc said, you creat a secondary group and add Joe into that group, Give that secondary group the settings "submissions are always approved"

Petee

And exactly how does that automatically put his articles in the "Broncos" category?

I think the reason you haven't got a specific answer is that nobody wants to go through the hassle of writing the code for this.

You would have to put your members into groups that allowed them to write articles, allowed their articles to be autoapproved and was able to tell the difference between categories. Possibly using multiple categories per person -- one that allowed auto-approval and one for their associated team.

The place where the category for an early article is set is in the file /Sources/TPortalAdmin.php and is in the line

$artc=isset($_POST['tp_article_category']) ? $_POST['tp_article_category'] : '0';

You would need a way to alter that code to associate member group numbers to article categories. Way above my pay grade. :)

Perhaps a simple script that would change the approval via SQL by checking the member's id against their unapproved articles would work- but, without getting more involved in parsing for pending articles and such, this is quite a task to make 'user-friendly' and have checks in place to avoid problems.

There is some question whether your authors could be entrusted to modify their submissions and not other authors...

There is currently no easy way to do this..it would need for membergroups to be assigned category(s) to auto-submit into - and still be able to view other categories on same level. If they shouldn't see the other ones, then it would be possible to limit what they can view, thus what they can submit into.

Its an interesting idea though, to separate what you can view and what you can submit to.

Yes, it is a very interesting idea. :)

Too bad it is not more easily implemented.
