[Solved] Problem with articles in category

I tried to add that block but whenever i try to select the category to display articles from from the drop down menu there is nothing there. its blank. can anyone help me out. my forum is http://ieatsoul.com/forums

i think i might have misunderstood something. are articles, topics? if not then how can i view new topics from a catgory? there are topics in the forum.

Articles are like "topics" yes, Categories are like "Boards" if you want to use the forum terms to describe,

Categories works as containers where you place the Articles inside. If you create an article, and doesent place it inside a category, they will not be seen anywhere except with the preview option in your article manager.

ok i think i understand now. I think I'm not meant to be using article in categories.

but can u tell me what block this website,  http://www.yibis.com/, is using to display their news in the middle. or point me in the right direction

Seems they are using articles on frontpage sorted on date.

You can have the same, just creat articlecategories, IE "frontpage" and then when you create your articles, you save them into that category.

Then set your frontpage to show articles from "frontpage" category, and how you want the sorting to be ( the site shown seem to be sorted on date ) and then set your other options you want and save.

Just make sure you set your frontpage to show articles and it will work the same as on the site you linked to

EDIT: Never mind i found out how. u have to go to settings and front page then click on frontpage at the top. on that page there should be a setting called "Display forum-posts on frontpage from:" and u basically choose the ones u want.
