Does anyone know how to create a block where messages scroll up in a set time frame

how good is the browser compatibility with the marquee tag ?

i'm currently using a multiple div scrolling javascript thing on one site but its all a bit bulky.

Check out this Wikipedia Page on the Marquee Tag, especially the part about compliance.

IMHO, there are better ways to do scrolling if it's something you really want, for instance DHTML.  Dynamic Drive has a lot of nice scrollers.  See this page ---> The Scrollers Page at Dynamic Drive.
