Well ive been using Simple Portal first I had SP2.1 which flooded my forum with error reports - asked for support got told to remove it, it wouldnt uninstall and asked for more help and non was forth coming and as i ent a genius I could of done with the help

Got it sorted in the end myself by having to rip my forum apart to get the dreaded edits out of my forum files, so then i installed SP2.1.1, the version that dealt with the errors i was recieving only to get flooded with error reports for a different reason, not holding out much hope on realistic support

So to say im disillusioned with SP is an understatement so im looking elsewhere for a portal......... EZPortal, erm looks bland so here i am looking at TP and ive had a look around, had peep or 2 at some showcase sites, but what I cant seem to find is a list of the available blocks that come with TP

Does TP have blocks built in? if so is there a list of them

Also are their people who used to use SP that have switched to TP and been more satisfied with the product and support

Hi stikkki
,
Welcome to TinyPortal.  First of all, TP is a module for the SMF Forum Software and an installation of SMF is required first.  Once you have that, TP can be installed.

There are a variety of block types.  You can see those here ---> Blocks - types.  However, there are a variety of block code snippets that have been written by some of our more resourceful members that allow you to have other blocks.  You can find those in the Resources board, and more specifically in the Block Code Snippets child board.  The resources board is here ---> The Resources Board.  The Docs board in resources is also a good location for information.

Blocks can be placed into 6 different panel locations (left, right, upper, lower, top and bottom), and can also be placed to show just on a Front Page that you can create.

Have a look around and if you have any other questions, all you need to do is ask.

thanks ZarPrime, been scratching my head trying to find the preinstalled blocks list   :D

i see there are 2 versions of TP 0.9.8 & 1.0.5 - i have SMF 1.1.7 that is heavily moded (thats running on the default core theme that has been modified a little)

which of these versions would you recommend for my set up?

Either one will work fine for the most part but there were quite a few bugs in 1.05 beta 2 that have been squashed for the next release which is beta 3.  The team is testing beta 3 right now prior to release, and though I can't give you a release date for it, it won't be too long in the future.  If you can wait a little while for beta 3, it has a lot of new features that 0.98 didn't have.  If you want to install 0.98 now, it's extremely stable and you shouldn't have any problems with it.  That way, you'll easily be able to update to beta 3 once it's released to everyone.

So, bottom line, the choice is yours. ;)

cheers, i'll go for the stable release to give me time to work with it and understand it whilst the beta is in testing and update when the time comes, thanks for your help
