I'm sorry, but after hours of reading and banging my head against the desk, I just can't figure this out. I've read all the posts about adding buttons but none of them are similar to my theme I'm working with. I've managed to figure out how to add the button by editing the index.template.php, but I'm stuck on one thing.

Here' are the lines I added to make it work:

Line 430                    // Show the [forum] button.
Line 431                      echo'
Line 432                      <li><a href="', $scripturl, '?action=forum">' , $txt [1] , '</a></li>
Line 433                     ';

The problem is I don't know what to put in this line after the $txt[ ] variable to make the work "FORUM" text show up. Currently it's set to 1 just so I have something in there, but it doesn't work of course. The page shows a blank space where"Forum" should be displayed, but the link works fine if you click on the gap in the menu where "Forum" text should be? I've attached my entire index.template.php should you wish to download it for review.

Can someone tell me where to find this mysterious variable is stored so I can place it where it should be so the test shows on the menu? Sorry guys, I suck.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

scso1502,

The theme on your site is not the New Year theme you mentioned in your first post.  It's the Fg:.:Zm theme from SMF at http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/index.php?lemma=220

That theme uses some funky dhtml menu or something.  If the link that G6 gave you doesn't work for you, your best source of info on how to do what you want might be the author of the theme.

Edit:  OK, update on this.  Apparently Crip was working on a TP version of this theme.  See this link ---> http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=150601.msg1230999#msg1230999

However, I don't know if he ever finished it.  You might want to ask Crip if he knows where you can get a TP version for the theme.

Thank for the replies you guys. I read the post G6 was kind enough to send prior to posting this. Sadly, as you put it Zarprime, the coding for the theme I'm referring to (New Year 2009) is different than anything that I've found here so unfortunately that post and the others I found here about how to create a Forum button were not helpful to me.

I've turned off the theme for now as I can't resolve it at this time. I'll try to get ahold of the author and will report back when I hear from him so you all know what I learned. Have a nice day and thanks again.
