I know that you can export csv file or an excel file in my sql with the headings.  However I haven't figured out how to import them back in that way.   If I can do that I can make large scale article imports.  I need to add and modify a large number or articles.  Any suggestions.

IchBin

Are you exporting your articles from another database that isn't SMF or TP related? If so, you won't be able to just import them because the fields for the tables have to line up and be assigned properly etc.

If you're going to do it this way to try and save yourself time you're going to need some custom code to do it. Can you provide a sample backup so we can see how your articles are laid out in the other database or where ever you are storing them?

shawnlg

What I want to do is export the current article database in an excel file or cvs, make changes, add additional articles and then imput them back in.

Here is my current article database in sql format..

why not just edit them in place in myPHPAdmin?
adding them would be a problem since databse is not present to do auto-increments and update relatedtables....besides, adding articels through TP is a lot easier with editor.

IchBin

Well if you're going to manually add the changes that easy enough. Export the file as as a sql file in phpMyAdmin. Add your changes to the file, then import the file with phpMyAdmin.

shawnlg

To lebisol..  With the changes that we made to the script moving back and forth between html and php is a pain.  If I can directly put it into the sql that would be great.  Are you saying I couldnt create my own numbers when adding new products that way?

To Ichbin I tried using my sql to do this but it would not import the csv file correctly.  I need to use the csv so I can have category heads so I can easily make changes.  I guess I just done know how to import that file I modify properly in SQL.  Any suggestions how to do this?  I can give you screen shots through the process if that would help you understand what I am doing or not doing right.  Thanks again!

lebisol

have never had good luck with editing csv...if the csv file is not formated right after the edits you could be getting issues from that. You can create your own numbers following the sequence of increment.
if you just do a csv export and then re-import it back without edit are you getting any issues?

I will try but the edits I did make souldnt have caused any issues.  I made a few textual changes.  But I will try.  Maybe I should call my sys op and ask him if everything is working ok..
