hi everyone, I'm new here and have a question. I have been searching but I can't seem to find my answer(I probably didn't use the right search parameters  :) ). I tried to install TP 0.9.8 on my SMF 1.1.3 board which has a pretty large list of mods which triggered the default/index.template.php test failed error. so when I saw that I remember reading at the SMF board about someone else having the same isssue which lead me to the following link here: http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=14195 I have a test board so i used that link to manually change everything and saved as I went using the file manager in my cpanel. I reloaded my test forum and everything was fine and working. now I'm reading around here and see that I am supposed to download a manual install package and upload that. I never did that on my test forum(it was never mentioned in the post that I saw at SMF). so, will i run into any problems if I do the same process on my actual board or do i need to upload the manual install package and then run through everything?

Is TP working? Are there any errors in the error logs?

chrishicks

I didn't see any errors related to TP in my logs(although I'm still very new to this and i may not know exactly what to look for). I somehow tried to undo everything I did and do a complete manual install as per the instructions I see here and completely screwed up my board(good thing it was my test board :) ).

yep, TP was there and was in fact working as far as I could tell. everything I configured in TP worked. I thought that was all I needed to do. after I resetup my test board(I had to re-up all the files I changed with the TP install that I did). I can do exactly as I did before(just do the add/change/replace as before) and post a link if anyone wants me too.

now about my actual board, after the nightmare I just had redoing all of those files I was wondering something. can I just use the Package Manager to install TP(it gives me the default/index.template.php test failed error as well) and then just go into that file and make just the changes there(as per the link I used the first time)? I don't think I'll be able to do this as a full manaul install since I'm quite the novice here.

You should be able to continue with the install and then just make the changes to the index.template.php file if that is the only file that errors. If you are not worried about it, and plan to use a different theme other than the default you can just use a different theme and not worry about making the changes. Just make sure you upload a TP theme though. :)

thank you for the reply(same for you Zetan :)). I am just going to use the current Core theme but with a modded css for now. on my test board I just went through and did the package manager install and then edited the index.template.php file. on a whim I figured I'd try to uninstall it to see what, if anything would happen(I actually didn't though, I just went through the motions) and it still errors on the file i just edited. is this normal?

you can see my testboard(one of them) here: http://testforum.rejectsreststop.com/forum3/index.php
