Definition Problem SSI

Hello folks,

im very confused right now. I started a few days ago and installed SMF and TP on some free webspace. Everything is fine and i'm very confident with the whole thing. But now i want to purchase some webspace and a domain without commercials and stuff, but i'm very confused about the requirements the server needs to have.

Especially about SSI. I hope this hasnt been asked to often, but i couldnt find something via search function. In very many cases the term SSI is used in connection with TP, but i couldnt find something in the requirements about SSI. So my simple question is: Does TP needs a server with enabled SSI (server side includes) or is mysql and php enough to run?

The provider/webspace/offer i chose was https://www.server4you.de/de/webhosting/showplan.php?products=0 (as you see there is an "x" at SSI) but i ordered it, before i got confronted with this SSI stuff and now i'm not sure if it will run without problems and/or restrictions :|

Hope anyone has a fast answer for me.

An easy answer would be yes, you need to have the server running SSI. but i really cant answer the question correctly.

Both SMF and TP use SSI a whole lot for diffrent functions inside the forum, and also TP uses SSI to call for diffrent things in SMF to show in TP blocks.

SMF's SSI and a server SSI are two completely different things. You need not worry about this. SSI should be standard option in hosting packages.

Thanks for the quick responses.

So if i did understand right, SMF's SSI is more like kind of a collection of php-methods and tools, which work fine with php running (and without the explicit server SSI), while server SSI are some functions you ususally use in html (something like <!--#include file="header.html" --> )?

You are right about SMF SSI.

SSI on servers is different kind of scripts that run server side only. (Server side includes).
