when i try to upload new features for the SMF forum i get this message:

"You cannot download or install new packages because the Packages directory or one of the files in it are not writable!"

And that is after i have made all files in that directory "777". I have also asked my webhotel if there was something they could do, but all i got was that they dont do support on 3rd party etc etc. Can there be something i can fix, or anyone? :P

Thank you

IchBin

This is something that you should take up with simplemachines.org. They know the package manager best.

Create a map named ' temp ' in your Packages map.
Set the acces to 777 and try again.

But are you sure that all files of the Packages are in, the ones that you need ?

Heero was exactly right, although it took me while to realize what he meant by:

"Create a map named ' temp ' in your Packages map."

It should have been obvious, but I'd never heard of a subfolder, or folder, or directory referred to as a 'map'.

But that did it for me.  I created a 'temp' folder in my 'Packages' folder and set the access to 777. After that the installation finished perfectly without a hitch.

THANKS HEERO!

This helped me a lot too when I moved my forum folder into the root directory.

I keep on getting that same error.

All fixed now.  thanks!
